Is there more to it? Like if i don't interrupt them in act 1 do they show up somewhere else? Is there a different option to interrupting them other than them getting justifiably angry and attacking? There seems to be no benefit to even interrupting, everyone disapproves and they don't seem to drop anything special.

I tried to google this--the only minor differencei found wsa a reddit post saying if you recruit Karlach first and have her open the door, or play her has the origin character shes got 1 extra line of dialogue about it, is that it?

Since this thread was bumped I'll also chime in. If you just want to kill them for EXP but don't want party members disapproving, you can simply destroy the door to bypass the whole cutscene and get straight to combat.

I mean... Did you just read the title and not the content? I honestly feel bad breaking the door down for absolutely nothing-- even if they don't seem to come back if you leave them alone. Personally i think next time i play i just leave the shed alone entirely--the xp isnt worth it and they don't drop anything of note-- its early enough in Act 1 i've killed them a number of times and all i get is xp and maybe some junk. But as others have found theres at least a more fun Astarion option.

There is an hilarious option which is opening the door with a barbarian (or Karlach, it might work?). You have new dialogs and a new scene that very few (i guess) have seen.
I suggest you to see it once, at least, before committing to leave them be.

you do get the Ogress XP for handling the situation none violently (not the Bugbear).
If you use speak on Dead on them you discover the horrible truth... That they love each other, you monster.
