MacOS vs Windows Version

A friend an I are attempting to play a co-op campaign together. They have a macOS that meets recommended system requirements, and I have a Windows PC that meets recommended system requirements. Is macOS an update or two behind Windows? I tried to play with them today after the latest hotfix and our game versions are mismatched. How can I resolve this?

Unfortunately, have to wait for the Mac version to get updated to the current, or have everyone switch to one platform or the other.

edit: or maybe get it on GoG and roll it back to Patch 5?

I also don't know if you can run the Windows version on Mac via Wine/Proton/Steam Play, or if that would ultimately be way more hassle than it is worth
