Here's Something Wierd:
Unless it's in token damage riders like Helldusk Gloves, or a multihit spell like Scorching Ray . . .

I REALLY don't see the appeal of fire spells as opposed to cold/lightning spells, especially after lv. 7.

I mean, Fireball is Fireball - it's specifically highlighted by the 5e devs as being strictly stronger than any other 3rd level spell because of how iconic the spell is - but you get Ice Storm 2 levels later AND get access to abilities that make Ice Storm way stronger than Fireball in every aspect (extra Chilled stacks, Frost stacks to decrease DEX efficacy, more ways of inducing vulnerability, more ways of augmenting the damage like with Mourning Frost or Elemental Affinity, etc.).

Hell, Glyph of Warding competes with Fireball damage wise, is on the same spell level, is available to nearly the same class list (I think WLK doesn't get GoW but then again they get HoH which is just as good), can be cast as a cold or lightning spell, and has better utility in that it can be a way for an Abjurer to refresh Ward Stacks without losing DPR.

-----

I can't be the only one who's a bit puzzled by the lack of support for fire builds outside Heat builds, but Heat builds have the drawback of self damage as well as a higher gold cost (for Oil of Arson/Combustion) which cold or lightning builds don't have.

Wierd, right?

The ironic part is none of that is even on the spectrum compared to how strong an evocation subclass pick is over every other wizard spec. Being able to drop those big AOE nukes in optimal placement without worrying about friendly fire damage rivals some of the best end game spells as a passive effect thats free on every cast. lol

Even then, if you're an Evoker, you're likely building a cold or lightning build.

Typical lv. 7 Gale Evoker on a Lightning Build has Spellsparkler, Gloves of Belligerent Skies, Elemental Augmentation Amulet, Sparkswall Ring, and Watersparklers to have maxed out lightning damage with Witch Bolt or Lightning Bolt, and is paired with a Water Support for easy access to AoE lightning vulnerability, making his Lightning Bolt hit for 16d6+2d8+2 before lv. 10, or 16d6+1d8+12 at lv. 10, all while creating a lightning hazard that's 2d4 per turn automatic, AND it's save for half so you still get good DPR even if the enemy has 20 DEX and proficiency (Evasion is Evasion, but other than that . . . ), plus the Reverb stacks.
