Any Advantage Bug Fix? (Friends, etc)
I know that people have made threads like this before. I remember one got locked literally a year ago because they were like "Why is this thread open it's been fixed/addressed!".

I am here to report even almost a full year later in Summer of 2024 it is still not fixed. Description of the bug, and a dismissal of a common "explanation" for context that I see in threads discussing the bug both here and even other places on reddit.

The Bug: Advantage not working in dialogue checks with NPCs when you use friends, charm person, etc.

Target in this case was Hope in the House of Hope.

Upon dialoguing I am given an offer to roll a charisma check to persuade her of something. My character is a warlock, who has both friends, and charm person available.

Upon using either of them, it does not offer the advantage it's supposed to offer in these checks. Instead only one die rolls.

And yes, I know, advantage only rolls 2 and keeps the higher one. This is a glitch though, because any time you do anything with advantage in a die rolling check, including both these spells in the past, it always shows two die rolling then you see the animation pick the better one. Now it only rolls one, and still wastes your spell.

Reloading does not fix this. I can't go to camp to test if a full rest fixed this. I tried even repeatedly just casting both the spells on her out of combat. Even when it says she fails the spells, it does not apply charm person to her. Even though friends can't fail, even casting it 10 times in a row will not apply it to her.

I find my self save scabbing on results I know I'd normally be winning now just to get the result that I feel like I'd normally be deserving (if the game won't let me roll twice I guess if one fails I'll just give myself the reroll myself.) but it's very tedious. Posting this in hope Larian or whoever can see it sorry about the "necromancy" or whatever but come on now it has been a year. People were bringing this up when the game was even still in earlier development before the full release and it still hasn't been tended to it seems.

My diagnosis is that there is some bug interfering with the status being afflicted on new NPCs and I really hope this at least goes away with a long rest or something or it looks like I apparently am expected

Any workarounds are appreciated. I'm testing now to see if maybe breaking my concentration off of guidance which I casted instead, then casting friends on minsc (it seems to have affected him properly unlike hope and actually put the buff on) helps if I get the option again soon.

Not sure, never used any of these. But if you have the Enhance Ability spell you could try using that. There is a charisma option, should basically be the same outcome. Advantage on charisma checks ? I hope at least

And it has the additional benefit of not having the potential to make the target hostile after the spell effect ends...:P

What mods are you using?

So, is this physical Hope or Astral Projection Hope? Because to me, it makes sense that neither spell would work on the latter.

I think it won't allow you to use it on creatures immune to charm spells. You are getting the results 'you deserve to get.'

There is a bug alright, but it is that bug I have always reported:
"You can play a stupid character, but you should not expect to be rewarded for it."

Charm NOT ALWAYS WORKS. There is a MEGA caveat explicitly clear that says it might backfire and you might get even a disadvantage if it fails.

Then there is the question about advantage not being awared when a situational would instead put you in disadvantage.

Except in that situations, it works perfectly fine.

None whatsoever and never installed even one.

This is not the issue. I know charm can fail.

Even when it works, it doesn't do the advantage.

Even if I cast it right on the NPC and it says "Save failed" if I proceed to talk to them it won't roll it with advantage.

Same thing when I cast friends and it says it didn't fail at all. I've used these spells a million times, they're always imparting the advantage. I just tested this well over a dozen times and it doens't even though the system says the spell was totally efficient. I know you're trying to sound like you're just dismissing something that isn't a glitch but work on your tone lol. You're just wrong and I have the screenshots and recordings to prove it. I'm not the only one who's even reported this glitch even since september of 2023.

Shouldn't be the issue. She's only statted as a gold dwarf. She's not even immune to charm and shouldn't be in any way as she's not statted as anything but a normal race and not any kind of special entity nor does she have any stat feature saying she's immune to being charmed.

In fact I tried to just do this out of combat by trying to charm her. She reacts to charm the same way other humanoid creatures should be, and rolls to try and resist it. If I succeed it even says "save failed" but doesn't give her the buff for it. Nor will it work in the dialogue even if you start it directly after it says she failed the save and rush through the conversation for the option.

If a spell fails for only one NPC, it's likely a deliberate design decision rather than a bug.
