- spells like Misty Step;
- better proficency bonuses like Sleight of Hand;
- consistent damage boosts for Hunter or Dread Ambusher abilities for Gloom Stalker;
- on level 11, Gloom Stalker can try again in case they missed the target;
- has default AoE attacks on level 11 for Hunter;
- can summon bears.
I'll never get a fighter for a ranged character since I find it too useful ( though a pure fighter or a hybrid fighter/rogue would deal a lot more single target damage compared to a ranger, but I wouldn't care ).
On dnd u feel more about this powergap, here the ranger is better atleast then the rolepaying game
Cos of Slashing Flourish (Ranged) that let's you attack two enemies at once or one enemy twice per action.
- gets 5 pets that can tank and DPS, which get stronger (and more dapper) as they level
- essentially adds a 5th permanent party member
- lots of versatility with their pets, at least one of them is almost guaranteed to fit your party dynamic
- pets can provide a lot of utility and have their own seperate skills, adding great synergy
- kids in the world will comment on them which I really like
