I think BG3 has ruined other RPGs for me. I'll always compare this game to anything new.
Dragon Age Origins was not an action game. It was a 3d infinity engine style game with a different default point of view.
DA:O was real time with pause and was considered the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate 2 at the time.
But then I realized I already appreciate Larian on maximum level possible :D
If it's just another story game with limited interaction and lack of sand, then I'm not going to bother.
edit:
Yes, I like story in my story games, but I also like sand.
Sure, it's not like Origins - but none of the sequels were like it, neither in terms of gameplay, nor style.
It seems like they went full A-RPG this time - but that's not a new development in Bioware history either, they've wanted to go full-action since Jade Empire and even KotOR was a lot more action-packed than their previous games.
From what was shown, there isn't any Marvel-tier quips in the midst of battle like in Andromeda, companions seem fine and likable, world seems beautiful. If this game won't have MMO-tier collectathons, than it might be a decent experience overall.
After a pretty bland trailer, the presentation looks fairly decent. So, I'll be cautiously optimistic and wait till release.
And it's also not necessarily what I'd like from a Dragon Age title. I tapped out of Inquisition really hard and never went back.
I prefer turn-based to this action style combat tbh, but at least they've gone all in and made it fairly smooth instead of the half tactical thing the previous two games used.
Happy enough with what I saw to probably buy it, but I'd really like to see more on the game systems to be sure.
NO player agency.... Lack of detail and options just arcade gameplay without strong direction.
To top it off, little substance and character - charisma due to lack of details!
Like i keep saying rpgs have no standards nowaday.
No wonder BG 3 is doing so well a good rpg like BG 3 will stands out really well compared to this kind of stuff hehe
RIP Bioware.
i had find one for the companions trailer but failed find it back or find it for the gameplay trailer.
Damit I saw the site name and can't remind it.
EDIT:
Ok dailymotion it seems.
Finally a true next gen rpg!
BG1 was a classic rpg that tried to appeal to the action crowd. That was the whole point of going RTwP over TB. This is just the natural evolution of that development....and you see it all over their games history...It's not a recent Bioware thing at all...
Same thing happene throughout the Mass effect series...me1 was way closer to kotors pseudo-rtwp....me2 was somewhere in between, me3 was way more action oriented etc....
Same thing that's happening with BGS....you can see the same development there, only that BGS never pretended to make anything but action rpgs....then people complained about the feel of their combat system not living up to shooters, so BGS went more and more in the direction of shooters and now we got starfield....maybe people should have complained way, way more about the missing RPG systems in either of the earlier games....
And that is the great thing about Larian. they did compromise relatively little on that front and still made a game that sold huge....
