Multiplayer romance?
Does anyone know, if it's possible to romance another player character? We found several articles, some claim it works, if one of the players chooses an origin character (ie Astarion), others claim it's not possible, so where is the truth? I'm interested in a co-op playthrough with my girlfriend, a romance option for both of us would be nice. Of course it's not the alpha & omega of our co-op play, but would be a sweet touch, if it was possible.

Point is, imo, that part of the content is given by npc interactions with other npcs as well as the tav.

So, while the player might find entertaining building a bond with a partner, even if only because of the story, this is something which can’t be done between 2 players.

You could do that ( let other players just play a companion that acts as a companion ) in the old bg games, but here there’s no option for letting a second player just play an npc, though they can be assigned an origin ( didn’t try but it should definitely work ).

For example:
Player 1 creates their tav.
Player 2 creates their tav.
They also recruit shadowheart and Astarion.
Shadowheart/Astarion could be given to the second player to move.
Player one can romance one of them, which is moved by player 2 ( though they won’t get any choice in terms of dialogues ).

Maybe I am wrong, but I think it’s the best that can be achieved.

Not possible afaik since they are no longer companions ( for example, wyll or karlach used by a player could easily raid the grove and laugh at the slaughtered thieflings ).

I'm not looking for it especially, just an option.

Having said that....there is a sex mod that might be what you're looking for.

I know about mods, not exactly the solution we seek. Sure it's nice, that there are animations, but sex isn't everything, sometimes story elements, relations and stuff like that is somewhat more appealing, than watching two tiny characters move in tandem with each other. I could as well just watch porn, if I was simply interested in sex, mind you.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

This sounds good. I was asking mostly because in another Larian game (D:OS2), you can't even interact with companions another player recruits into "their" party. All I hear from them is "later", or "don't wanna talk right now" and that later, or not now! actually never comes, aside from certain points, where the whole party (all players and their companions) do ponder about current important events. So in BG3 companions of the other player are still accessible, I'm fine with that. And thanks.

You can... Meet outside the game, on a date... Talk about it in-game... Advantages? Free dialogue options, real sex... :D

What exactly do you mean by "another player character"?

In this game it's like in D:OS2. You can't interact with the character that your other teammember has in their party. But you can romance different characters each. And your controlled characters, self made or origin, can't interact with each other at all.

Like the main character of another player? In a Multiplayer game? I thought, that much was obvious, oh silly me.

As I've understood from the reply, that I picked as the best answer for my question, if the other player picks a companion (let's say Astarion, or whoever) in their party, I'd still be able to interact with that companion, much like I do in SP. You're saying, that's not the case then? Just like D:OS2? I get, that it's made by the same company, but not all games made by same developers need to be carbon copies of each other.
So how does it work? Am I only to romance the companions, that I have under control, the ones, that follow my MC? A clear answer would be appreciated.

No, I didn’t mean that.
Both characters have to pick their tav ( or an origin ).

Then the second player might be “also” given another companion to move. And player one should still be able to romance them ( because they are still a companion and neither a tav nor an origin the player chose at the beginning of the game as their character ).

To make a quick example, you create a
Dwarf fighter and your girlfriend picks Gale as their character. Then you add shadowheart to your party and give your girlfriend the control of her.

You should be able to romance shadowheart even if they move that character ( in addition to their main one, which is gale ) because she’s a companion.
