Does having casual sekkusu with a character count as a romance?
Hi. I'm on my first playthrough of Baldur's Gate 3. I was being very nice to most of my party members trying to get to know them better and exploring all the possibilities. After a while, it turned out that being nice to party members is considered a romantic intention in this game. Because after a couple of long rests, Lae'zel now openly says she wants to "taste" me, and both Shadowheart and Karlach have become unexpectedly horny out of a sudden.

Now that Lae'zel invites me to have sekkusu with her, I would like to know if having casual sekkusu with someone will block me from other characters' romances? Or can I remain polygamous until some point? What about the other characters?

Thanks.

Lae'zel's is culturally spurred, not romantically. Your character can "neg" her and she'll want to jump the main character's bones because, as required during the game play, the main character shows prowess, which is something the Gith value in attraction.

The rest are your typical, overused "nice=romance", but that can still be safely navigated with a little room-reading as long as you're aware of this common but ridiculous measure of romance affinity.

(Seriously, this isn't the only game that does it. Many, many games do it. Maybe that's why I find it easy to navigate around it. That Dragon's Dogma series is the worse by tallying how many times the player character simply talked to someone.)

I imagine someone asking that to a regular "love interest"...

Lets say, you are a man, then you have date with a girl:
Girl asks: "Are you a romantic ?"
Man says: "Do you think having casual sex with someone counts as romance ?"

Faerûnians seem to be very liberal wrt to sekkusu,

Any first act romance scene doesn't lock in the romance, this allows you to have casual sex with Lae'zel and Astarion. Casual sex with Karlach would have also made sense, and it might be possible to break up with her after doing it and still pursue someone else, but her sex scene comes at the point romance gets lock in.

There's an explicit commitment moment, which isn't necessarily related to sekkusu. I think you're good until that happens. I don't think any of them happen until Act 2.

Note that some companions are front-loaded in this regard, but others aren't.

The answer is no, as you can have sepukku (ok deliberate mis-spelling) with Mizora, the drow twins, Haarlep, the Emperor/DG, etc. And I guess the game guides call those "romances," but I wouldn't. Doing so can affect your (real) romances, though.
