and very few places limit your ability to do long rests
You know, no one said this. I know Cleric is one of the top classes too. Thanks.
All in all, there is one main reason to play bard: Vicious Mockery. Just to hear the quips your bard will throw out when they use it. Glorious.
BUT
Healing is not as important in BG3 as you might think - healing to put people back from wounded state is, but several classes can do it wit ha single lv1 spell, healing word.
On the other hand, this game has several healing items that make healing WAY more than "regain some HP", so AoE or group heals can become quite useful - without being forced into a character that does not have other strenghts.
My favorite healer is Oath of the Ancients paladin 8/life cleric 4 (or 6/6). Pally auras, the excelent healing radiance channel oath ability, misty step, CHAb ased so good party face because of the pally part + disciple of life to empower heal spells, blessed healer to self-heal on heals on others.
Pair this with all healing items you get, specially Hellrider's pride, the gloves you get really early, and AoE healing becomes "your whole party is almost as resilient as raging barbarians", plus the heal itself.
also, if you have a dedicated healer, then that character isn't doing much to reduce enemy strength. your party would probably do better with a character that is more proactive rather than reactive. healing in BG3 is really just for keeping someone from dying, not to keep them at max hp all the time.
all that being said, Healing Word and Aid are the healing spells I use most often when I really need it.
