(Spoiler for act 3) Wulbren's conversation has to be bugged, right?
I'll just mark this all as spoilers just in case, regarding Barcus Wroot's friend Wulbren and his plan in act 3. For reference, I'm travelling with Wyll, Karlach and Lae'zel, so I haven't tried all options with all companions. It just seems like Wyll disapproves of options that are actively counter to his moral character.

Once you get to act 3, if you saved the Ironhand gnomes from the Absolutists both times, Wulbren asks for your help in blowing up the steel watcher foundry. In the conversation, you get the following options:

1 will give disapproval with Wyll, and end the conversation. If you pick this, Wyll and any character with the Folk Hero background will receive inspiration for not choosing to cause collateral damage.

2 will give disapproval with Karlach, but not Wyll.

3 will lead Wulbren to insist that you bring the bomb as a backup, just in case things turn ugly in the foundry. Relenting will give disapproval with Karlach, and refusing to bring it will give disapproval with Wyll and the inspiration point is gained by Wyll.

4 gives disapproval with both Wyll and Karlach, and Wyll gets the inspiration.

I just feel like the fact that Wyll gets a point of inspiration for refusing innocent casualties means that he should approve of those choices, not disapprove. Regarding Karlach disapproving of both option 2 and 4, that kinda makes sense. 2 would cause collateral damage and almost certainly harm innocents, but 4 could be construed as a choice to do nothing in the face of tyranny, which obviously clashes with her history of enslavement.

I don't know, am I reading too much into it? Why is Wyll seemingly opposed to something that he himself wants?

You're reading too much into it. The inspirations are mostly generic and do not require anyone to follow them completely for optimal roleplay. Your companions (and ideally your character aswell) are more complicated than what a simple stereotypical background would do.

Another example is Shadowheart. If you allow Balthazar to take the Nightsong Shadowheart gets inspired due to her Acolyte background but leaves because she gets upset for obvious reasons.

Another example is Phalar Aluve. If you do the ritual as an Acolyte background Cleric of Lolth, then you get inspired for performing the ritual to get it out of the stone even though a Cleric of Lolth would never do so due to roleplay reasons.

When a background gives inspiration (which is aside of the companion as all characters with the same background including the player will do it), the journal lists why the inspiration was given each time.

I haven't had any Folk Hero in that conversation. So, I don't know why that inspiration is given.

Does the inspiration description contradict Wyll? It's a possibility given how the mechanic was coded.
