Jaheira quest at a standstill

I can't ask Jaheira about the thing I need to ask her about.
I’m in act III and the High Harper Quest says, "The Harpers rendezvous turned out to be a trap laid by doppelgangers. We should see what Jaheira wants to do next." and the explicitly lain-out next step is "talk to Jaheira." And yet, when I talk to Jaheira, the only dialogue options are for nine-fingers, the timeless body scroll, the "I wanted to ask you something," that leads to more personal dialogue, and the request to part ways.
What am I missing? is there a dialogue pathway to talking about the doppelgangers? or is it some bug?

I appreciate your reply. I'm not sure I quite understand it, however; can you help me? It seems inconsistent with the game's pattern so far to tell me to talk to someone and simply not have the option to bring it up. Also, why would it still be there in my to-do list as "talk to Jaheira" if the game had considered that I had?

sorry are you in the actual city? Like she said to talk to her again in Lower City. If you are still outside it wont progress (Not the bridge city with the brothel)

my whole camp is in the upstairs of the Elfsong Tavern, so I'm pretty sure that's as lower city as it gets, right?

After you talk with Geraldus, in the same cutscene she tells you she's really after Minsc.
From the dialogue you're getting the journal should've updated. The next step is to find Nine-Fingers in the Guildhall. I suggest doing that.

dang, thank you!! I think the issue was that my first interaction with nine-fingers was without Jaheira but I absolutely needed to encounter the cutscene I did when I went back with her to proceed. My journal finally updated

Yay!
In the city it can happen the journal doesn't update properly but going to the next checkpoint in the quest chain will trigger progression.
When stuck, check on the questline at BG3 wiki. They have a good system for not showing you too much but letting you find what step you are on and figure out the next step.
