Weird glitch for Mac players
Hey, do you guys have any strange visual issues when you start up the game on Mac? After the latest patch, the game would start up zoomed into the corner, blocking off the majority of the menu screen. When I go into settings and change the screen resolution, it would do this strange thing where it would zoom out, but then it would play in a smaller portion of the screen while everything else is swapping between the controller mode and mouse mode, causing it to flash. Whenever I try to fix it, it would always end up zoomed in. Has anyone else faced this weird glitch? It basically makes this game unplayable for me

Update: I managed to go into my settings using a controller to navigate the main menu, and swapped it to fullscreen instead of borderless window. However, the same issues occur when I relaunch the game. I will try the suggestions out as soon as possible, and I will report the glitch to Larian Studios as soon as I can. Thank you for the suggestions!

Y'all know Larian doesn't read this forum right? If you are having a bug, you should report it to them or they'll never know its happening and it wont get fixed

If the issue persists, send in your issue with your savegame and screenshots here

via email support@larian.com

or

via online form https://larian.com/support/baldur-s-gate-3#modal

only then it gets tracked and investigated by Larian Studios properly :spacehamster:

Same here. How did you even get into the settings to change it? The settings button isn't even on the screen, and there doesn't seem to be a way to navigate the menu with the keyboard. And they've finally added a confirmation on cmd+Q, so I can't even exit without force quitting.

Such issues happens frequently for players who do not do the game update routine.

Well, that's quite the routine.
But it worked, thanks.

Sorry, what worked? Reinstalling?

You are welcome.
It might look like a lot at first glance, but once you get used to it, it is just a matter of a few clicks within seconds. I am doing the routine myself every time with every patch and never encountered any issues caused by updating the game that way. Even while using mods.
I have explained it in more detail, for Windows, here

It is definitely worth it, because it helps ditching any update related worries, especially when playing while using mods. :lis_alex:

After talking to Larian, this worked for me:

Try browsing to the '~/Documents/Larian Studios/Baldur's Gate 3' folder and delete or rename the graphicSettings.lsx file, to get the game to recreate it the next time it is started.

But this did.

Uninstalling never works, unless one deals with defective hardware. And that is quite a lot one has to consider when uninstalling a game properly. I doubt people do more than just trying to uninstall it via Steam, despite more steps would be necessary. This is what it looks like on Windows:

I use a controller to play the game, so I basically used it to find my way into the settings menu.

You could just use the Larian Launcher ...

there is also an option for graphics settings but people should instead clear their cache.

While it did take 10-15 minutes or so, "Cleaning Cache (Mac Edition)" above fixed the issue for me. What's puzzling perhaps is that for reasons I can't explain, my graphics are better?! Animations and movements appear smoother.

That is simple to explain. Also it takes less than a minute when you are used to clean the cache regularly, like with every update and patch.

The reason for any improvements is simply: your game is no longer using any outdated cache. If left unattended it can happen that your game is using after an update the cache from the previous version of the game. That means you are running with preloaded files without any improvements.

Cleaning the cache forces the game to generate all temporary files anew - making you benefit from the latest updates in full.

It also prevents any issues which might occur due to incompatibilities. Including recently seen:

- graphics issues
- keybindings issues
