You answered your own question. The game doesn't want you to go that way. That's why.
That's my point, generally. For most of the rest of the game, if you can see a way to do something, the game will let you. But in this instance, they make it look like something is doable -- the jumping arc lands on the platform (it says "Death")-- but you die if you do. Better to put the Temple out of jumping range altogether.
It's not a huge deal, and not an honor run or anything. Just disappointed I didn't get to use my hack! lol
