The Faces in the BG3 Character Creator Are Scans of Real People
Many people have been noting the limited selection of faces in the character creator for BG3.... here is what they have not been mentioning:

https://www.thegamer.com/baldurs-gate-3-character-creator-scans-real-people/

As such, Alena Dubrovina—Baldur's Gate 3's lead character artist—wanted to shine a light on the studio's effort to bring a huge variety of character faces to you. They used 3D scans of the faces of over dozens of different models and actors whose features roughly resembled the direction of each of the eight races in the game. "We decided to use scanned faces in our production to create characters that were as realistic as possible. We scanned 40 people of different ages and ethnicity" Dubrovina said. With some tweaking, this method resulted in 150 unique heads to choose from.

From Community Update #8 here at Steam:

Our character creation features photorealistic fantasy races, based on 3D scans of actors and models (blemishes and all), selected because their features roughly resembled the direction for each race in the game, as well of course for diversity and variety in the human-like races. Our team spent much of pre-production carefully selecting, scanning, and moulding these scans, to become the base heads for character creation.

We decided to use scanned faces in our production to create characters that were as realistic as possible. We scanned 40 people of different ages and ethnicity. While scouting for models we focused on features that would fit our fantasy races and we looked for faces that either had something unique about them or were very versatile to fit different characters.

Eventually, we transformed the scanned heads into approximately 150 unique heads of various races that you can see in-game now, and that number will keep growing. Some of the scanned heads kept their features, but others became a starting point for creating new faces. We also used scanned data as a learning resource because there is no better sculptor than nature.”

Makes sense on humans... Not the ideal solution but... ok-ish (better to have a design option). But other humanoid races of Forgotten Realms aren't very diverse. Some of them are even non-inclusive and xenophobic to the extreme. Applying the same human templates to those races makes not much sense.

I don't see the problem you're reporting.

Which non-humans are you talking about?
How much of beauty is make up though? When you see a model or an actress in a movie, how much professional make up do they have on?

One thing I'll say, is that some of the options between different faces, I couldn't tell any different, or almost any. It was pretty arbitrary.

I am not sure what your point was, but mine is that our views of beauty are distorted by all the fake stuff that we see every day on tv. Spelling it all out is kinda boring though... let the reader engage in some critical thinking!

Then I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the person who provided the final face of the elves.
:steammocking:
I wonder if it is even worth raising awareness on the hypocrisy of this. All of this.

Now tell me you got even 1 person who looks remotely like someone you've ever seen.
This doesn't prove whatever point it is that you think you're trying to make.

All of "what"? Which was hypocritical? Larian using scans of real peoples' faces to create the faces for the character creator, or me pointing out that they did so?

I notice some of the original "necro material" to this thread has vanished. I know why I started it. It was in response to other threads, the usual perennial ones claiming Larian made all its characters deliberately ugly due to pressure from "Marxist mobs" (LOL). It's fine if it goes dormant again.
