So either they're shadow dropping it with Patch 7 and mod support, it'll still be some time after that patch, or they're just planning to keep releasing smaller patches instead of a DE.
It's purely speculation based on their previous games and how most of them(?) got a definite edition at the end. They had some major stuff added or changed from the base game.
Maybe it's the case her as well? Or maybe it's not, no clue. This is, after all, an IP they don't own.

Correct, WotC OWNS the IP, They licensed it to make this game. That would not stop them from making a Definitive Edition.
