The best longbow in the game is any crossbow.
Vibes, tho. Although I'll admit Hellrider Longbow can be pretty good as well, on-demand Faerie Fire, plus the +3 Initiative and perception advantage are all pretty under-rated imo. I used that at the start of Act III until I got Deadshot for Karlach and Gontr Mael for Tav (Both of which have plenty of CRIT boosting gear already and to be honest, 28% CRIT Rate is like 70% CRIT Rate in other games in terms of overall value so splitting the crit gear between my assassin and my thrower is just bonkers.)
Frankly though, I'm surprised that some of the best ranged options in the game are shortbows. Bow of Awareness for supports, Hunting Bow for a good starter weapon (although actually it's so good that you can use it as a statstick for Act III against some encounters), Darkfire Shortbow for an upgrade over Bow of Awareness, Least Expected for sneaks, Bow of the Banshee for Vengeance Paladins or GOO-Locks.
When I do honour mode I might change that.
I mean, I used dual hand crossbows all the way into Act III, because 4 hits at 2d6+2d4+17 is a lot of f*cking damage per round.
There's also the HEC in Act III that's underrated - a +2 heavy crossbow with a free cast of Lightning Arrow and free area control with Reposition Malefactor. Pretty useful in the right hands.
Sadly though, crossbows got the shaft in this game. Longbows and especially Shortbows just come with so much broken sh*t. It's a Beidou case: crossbows are great, but they're just not f*cking broken as sh*t so it doesn't activate the brain the same way.
Honestly it's kinda nice to see. There's so many unique and interesting options in the game in general so overlooking one batch of items because other items are also so f*cking good is frankly understandable and valid.
Like, straight up, I ignored Banshee Bow because I wasn't too keen on fear procs, but that thing is a BEAST on anyone who can reliably set up fear. High damage, good accuracy, fun synergies, insane itemization.
And used with an Arrow of Many Targets and items like Gloves of Power (for the Bane effect) & Boots of Reverberation (for, well, reverberation) and the Illithid power that reduces a stat it's just sooo good!
Bonus points if you use Hex or Hunter's Mark while wearing the Hunting Circlet. It's like having auto-bless and you get like a free +5 to attacks on average which is just insane.
Actually, you know what, you just gave me an idea for a new archer build. Thankies.
Yup; if any one watched that movie and did not feel the least bit uncomfortable throughout it (and rather idolised him), that's an individual who might raise red flags for me.
Inb4 they start idolising that super abusive Harley-Joker dynamic in the coming sequel.
