Hello! Sharing this here as well:
The team is currently investigating this issue with the performance on Mac. In the meantime, to alleviate the issue, they have recommended following these steps:
- Make sure you've updated to the latest Hotfix (21 as of this message)
- Switch to Borderless video mode (Settings > Video > Borderless Window)
- Lower the resolution (Settings > Video > Resolution)
- If the FPS are still low, turning on FSR mode (Settings > Video > Gamma Correction)
--------------
and then i've tried those steps, unfortunately still unplayable, the only thing we can do is waiting
I tried this and an information box came up to say Game Mode was on, I left chess running opened BG3 in another window and yes it worked and the game ran fine.
So it’s obvious that for some reason the last patch is somehow not forcing the Mac into Game Mode , I sent a message to Larian giving them the info but just got the standard computerised reply suggesting remedies that have been tried over and over.
I LOVE YOU
I can finally resume my game ( and close act 2 that I was suppose to close last week end).
And now that you mentioned Game Mode, made me realize that it hasn't been launching with the game since March 9th update, as you said, the game runs as any other software on the machine thus the poor performance.
THANK U, you genius mind !
In truth, I am relieved in away-- as I thought it was the macbook. I was feeling underwhelmed by it's performance. Good news it's just this last patches fault. 😅
Settings > Gameplay > Camera Options > Edge Panning.
Cut scenes are still really bad, but the in-game play is better.
I experienced the same horrible performance degradation after upgrading to hotfix 21 on my 15" M2 MacBook Air today.
I was able to restore the previous (quite good) performance by using Time Machine to restore an older copy (hot fix 20) of the Baldur's Gate 3 app to "~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Baldur's Gate 3.app"
The only drawback was that there were a couple of saves I had made while running from hot fix 21 that can not be loaded by the older hot fix 20 version.
