Question about crown symbol on left portrait.

I know this denotes the character you started playing with, but something really odd just happened. I was playing last night (solo) and everything was fine, saved, and I went to bed. Loaded the game just now, and now my original character AND Shadowheart have the crown symbol. Additionally, because of this, my main character and Shadowheart can no longer talk to each other. Multiplayer has not been used, so I have no idea why this happened. Prior to this, I could talk to Shadowheart at any time. Any thoughts, I'm stumped...

That is weird. I think I saw a post somewhere on the Internet a little while ago about someone's Mage Hand or Familiar showing up similarly as a party leader.
