I have had to do it on a few different games to fix saves.
If all your save files were on Steam Cloud it will download them all again, and you don't really need your old files anymore. If only some of your save files were on Steam cloud, you'll have to manually move the ones that are missing back to the original folder. You could move them all back and just let it skip any duplicates.
Thanks! Have you used this method for "corrupt" BG3-saves or just other games? If there's something wrong with the save file itself in this case (since downloading the "backup" from Steam cloud solved the problem for some), I don't know if an earlier version of the game will make it work?
The problem started for me after hotfix 21 was released but before I installed it. Earlier during patch 6 it worked fine.
I'll try a clean patch 6 install tonight, thanks for the suggestion and link.
But with ManifestID for patch 6 instead, and in-game it says v 4.1.1.4763283 now which is patch #6. The save still isn't working though.
I got another reply from Larian when asking about this option: "Your save should be able to get restored once the issue has been fixed. Just keep an eye out for the latest post with the most recent hotfix to see if your issue has been addressed. Once this happens, your save should go back to normal."
But I'm not really buying it. If the save isn't working in patch 6 (which is where I started it), I don't know how they would fix it in a future hotfix.
The premise is that you have Steam Cloud Save enabled and remember to back it up before deleting save files.
1. Turn off Steam Cloud Save
2. Backup everything under Under C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public
3. Delete C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3
4. Restart the game (and accept the Terms of Use and complete the gamma settings)
5. Turn off the game and paste the previously backuped saves and agree to overwrite any conflict files.
6. Start the game and all Honor mode saves came back. (Also noticed some random old quick saves files from other battles didn't come back.)
7. Re-enable Steam Cloud Save again.
Saved 36h of my life! Thank you so much.
