Sharing EXP
There's a companion that I don't ever plan on using and never take them along. I have the mod that increases party size, so the rest of the companions are with me most of the time. But am I dividing exp with the person in camp as well? If I kill them, will the rest get more exp? (when I DMed, you didn't get exp for sitting in camp)

It's not divided. Each party member gets the same amount of XP, regardless of how many members there are in your current party. If some action gets you 100XP, each member will get 100XP.

Exp isn't divided in the game, when you do something that gets exp everyone in your party gets a set exp regardless of who's there or not. You can neither increase nor reduce the amount anyone gets.

The way XP works is as follows: your active party gets XP mainly for encounters but occasionally for entering new areas, inspiration and a very few other things.

When you rotate an active party member out and have them remain in camp, their XP increase stops.

However, when you rotate an inactive party member into your active team, that "new" team member's XP points are set to match the player avatar's.

XP is not divided among the party

The person you leave sitting in camp, if you ever invite them into your party they gain the amount of XP that you currently have.

The ONLY indifference in party EXP is via the accrual of Inspiration, since that only gives EXP to the one inspired.

Other than that, EXP's just about equal across the board, and only in VERY specific circumstances will you see a level imbalance. (I did see it once where Asty was level 5 but SHeart and Mama K were level 4 at the end of a combat, but the next tick of EXP fixed that immediately.)

Experience management is so much better when my computer keeps score for me. It's annoying as hell on tabletop. My group uses milestone leveling up these days.
