Strange Ox Act 3 Spoilers
Hello,

I turned the strange ox into an apple and brought it to baldur's gate. However there was never a point where the apple changed into anything.

Supposedly once you get to the lower city it drops his famous ring with a note promising to aid you in the final battle. However He didnt show up for the final battle nor do i know where he supposedly dropped a note/ring. i had the apple in my inventory the whole time.

Am i missing a step? Also does he aid you with a passive buff in the final fight, or does he actually become a summonable ally?

I just left the apple on the ground outside of the tavern and he still showed up for the final battle

Interesting. You mean you left the apple on the ground right oustide of the stable that he turned into an apple?

Weird I feel like I had a trigger where he told me to drop him

You probably did. Lots of tiny things cna make things go awry in this game. E.G. maybe i fast traveled past his point or something.

Its no biggie but i did want to see what happened with him.

Was his help in the final battle a summon or a passive buff?

Every single playthrough, when I first walk into the Lower City, he just says "Thanks". I don't have to do anything with the Strange Apple -- it just disappears from my inventory.

I always kill it in Act 1 for the druid ring & XP.

The elfsong tavern.
I mean he wants into the city so I went just past the gate and dropped him.

Spoilers?

His real name is Zlorb, and he's a shapeshifter, and you can summon him in the endgame.

See here:

There's four forms he can shapeshift into.

FWIW you still get teh ring if you take it all the way to act 3, but i do understand one wanting it earlier.

It's good to note he's the second strongest summon for the final battle that I'm aware of. And he's still the strongest actually capable of dying, just he has 300 HP so it's not likely.
