Talking to Zarys

In my conversation I elected to ask about the two men she is looking for, instead of saying that I found them. (I went in to the cave with Astarion and lifted the strongbox. So I have it on the character talking to Zarys. However now when I talk to her I only get two options, after she says 'Any luck finding my people?' I can answer either 'I'm still looking' or I can 'leave'.
So does this mean I have to go back and talk with those two in the cave where I stole the strongbox? Doesn't make sense that if the caravan strongbox is unopened in my inventory that I can't have an option to just say 'here is the chest'.
I'm playing on honour mode so I'm not getting into it with Flint.
??Help??

If you long rest after discovering the cave I think the Gnolls kill them. Then just go back and find their corpses.

Sounds like the common mod issue. For mods related issues consult the mods authors.

After going back and getting close enough to the two dead guys who had been guarding the strongbox I lifted, the quest updated so I had an option with Zarys to say 'they are both dead', then I gave her the chest. Ok then.

Interesting. Did you leave the cave area through an other route before possibly? Maybe went straight to camp to rest after a big fight, or explored inside and went out through the other end.
Sounds like you managed not to step on the quest update trigger location previously.
