So online it says that warlocks and sorcs can get the perm, spell to recast shovel, but It never gives me an option. She just says one line and thats it and when i check my spells book there no recast spell lol. is this a glitch or am i just being dumb

I ran into this too.
I believe there are very specific conversation choices that have to be made to get him as permanent summon.

I just looked at the Wiki, and it says this with regard to getting the permanent summon:
"You cannot change Shovel's name, and you cannot ask about her former master Illyn. The dialogue options you get if you are a Sorcerer also won't work."

I figured it out, You have to switch to level one wizard. then teach it to gale. speak to shovel as the main character and you get special dialogue and it gives you the perm spell. then you can siwtch back and still have it. thank you guys. OH and yes you need to be inside the lab past the mirror for this to work.

You can also have both out at once ahhahahaha so you can have two invisible slash machines. I F'ing love this game

only issue is you lose the spell if you respec your origin character if you learn spell.
gonna have try the gain though dialog on main character.
if i had gained quazit through dialog on origin characters does she stay with a respec?

It's kind of annoying that they locked this away through a very specific set of choices and situations.

The easy way to get the summon permanently as a wizard is to just get the spell from the scroll. But then it counts as one of your memorized spells.

I know for a fact that a sorcerer can get the spell permanently, because I have done it. With wizards, basically you just pick option 1 of the dialog choices, walk through the mirror, and talk to Shovel again. She should recognize you as her new master. With a sorcerer it is similar, but you have to tapdance through the dialog options a little more carefully.

Anyway, if you go through the mirror and talk to her, and she only says "Trust me Beefy", then it didn't work. You have to get the dialog where she accepts you as a magic user and her new master. If you want this for sure, it is best to drop a save first so you can keep trying until you puzzle through the correct choices.

If learned through dialog it goes into you Common skills so it will stay even after respec. If learned from scroll it will be in your wizard skills and only available while you have wizard levels.
