Death shepherds being able to revive the same two ghouls over and over just seems unrealistic
Unrealistic even for a place with skeleton necromancers.

I've killed the same ghoul multiple times to keep their attack out of turn and while it does keep the death shepherds busy - we are locked in a minor loss every time we miss and they come back with 11 HP. I understand you're supposed to focus on the shepherds and I guess just tank the hits but that isn't the point.

The shepherds don't adhere to the same rules as the players by a large margin (as far as I'm aware I can't just revive the same thing every turn with no consequence no matter what I do) and at some point the ghoul being revived is going to just be a blob of blood and gore.

The only argument choice is it is a design choice. If you ask me if it outright breaks the rules of the game then it isn't a very good design choice. The death shepherds just keep reviving the ghouls every turn and if this was a DND campaign the DM would probably get smacked across the face with a 5e rulebook after the 8th revive.

Destroy the corpses is an option.

I’d be questioning why the players weren’t nuking down the Death Shepherds after the first revive…

Maybe I'm just wanting to take an overly barbarian approach to all this but after the 3rd or so resurrection I would think the corpse is pretty destroyed.

I just have Karlach put them in her pocket.

You know, the game throws curveballs, and we learn to change our swing to hit them.

In both Death Shepherd battles I am aware of:

* Crowd Control works like a champ to keep the rank and file out of the fight -- Hypnotic Pattern is a go-to for me.

* Wall of Fire is super powerful as well, as this AOE is persistent and these attacks feature no ranged enemies. (You probably are only high enough level to try this in the 2nd DS battle.)

* You have to have a radiant dmg dealer in the party -- at all times, no exceptions. Use a smite, an upcast Radiant Bolt, radiant Spirit Guardians, Holy Water or (if you have it) Sunbeam on a scroll to pull down their necrotic veil protection, and then you throw your melee at them to burn them down fast.

* Be grateful you are not playing on tactician -- I believe the revived undead come back at full HP!

Things you can do involve after killing a shepherd loot it's armor and weapon Much easier without those.
Use AoE crowd control to keep em apart
Throw their corpses far away!
Put em in your back pocket (the funniest option)
Use barrelmancy! It's hilarious!
Get a bag fill that bag with holy water chuck that bag of holy water watch it explode into a lot of holy damage!
Bombard them with the holy powers of a 4 man group of paladin smites!
Turn undead...

Lots of options honestly, get creative or don't but plenty of options for sure.

Oh I forgot bonechilling a corpse means it can't heal, and no healing means no revival!
Should work like a charm to prevent a revival.

1. Npcs and monsters not following player rules is normal. The death shepard is a literal manifestation of necromantic energy. No ♥♥♥♥ that thing is not gonna work like a normal player or normal living being at all.

2. Healing and resurecting FIXES damage you did. That killing blow you dealt last turn is put together again. Gaining back hp means wounds heal, broken bones set and knit together. The corpse is not getting more and more pulped. It is literally taken apart and put back together again by your damage and the shepards ressurecting.

These almost destroyed my party on Honour run. Party at level 5. SH, Astarion and Lae'zel dead. My sorcerer barely managed to beat them. AoE, throwables (bombs, alchemist fire, hoy water), anti-paralysis and anti-poison gear/potions. And weakening BOTH of the shepherds at the same time so that you can kill them in one round.

Monsters often have abilities players don't have access to. A Bodak's death stare, a Vampire's regeneration, a Mimic's transformation. Not everything that exists in-universe is available on level up.

In fairness -- *two* of these guys the first time you meet them (at L6+, allllllways do UD before Mountain Pass) is brutal.
