Bigot? Why bigot? Bigot about what? He's an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ full of himself, granted, but bigot? Why?
A logical companion to add:
1) He's already in the game and people dig him
2) There are no short races in camp and we could use a few
3) He already has Act II and III personal quests lined up in the current game, he just would do them from within the party this way
Just needs a plausible class. BG3 doesn't really have a tinkerer build, but he's book smart and there are no Bards in the party... so some kind of Lore Bard / Illusionist combo?

Literally one post higher up on this thread someone nailed it:
Wulbren created an 'other' to rally his people to do unspeakable things.
Pretty cut and dry to me.

In fact, some of the best grenades in this game (like smokepowder bombs) CAN'T be made with alchemy. It would be cool if maybe this would be a unique ability for Barcus. He could make smokepowder bombs and arrows for the party. Maybe even make those unique concussion grenades it seems only Gortash's people know how to make? Hmmm.... tasty.
(Now I get it... they are crazy OP and even somebody like ME can see that ... so maybe Barcus could only make 1 concussion grenade per day, say.)
After you free him he sees you as a means to an end. Thinks of you as a servant and talks to you as such. Once you complete Moonrise if you talk to him he talks about how he was mistaken about you. But more in that he sees how strong you are and sees you as a useful tool to have. If you insult him here he just admits it, doesn't apologize, just sees his previous behavior as unimportant, just a thing that happens.
Wulbren is not a good person, he doesn't care about Barcus as a friend and he doesn't want you as a friend he wants assets to feed his ego.
I didn't kill him and had no desire to kill him. He's not sadistic, he doesn't seem to really relish the idea of killing but he's not shy about it either. He's the type of person who isn't interested in the Bhaalists but would contract them if it furthered his goals. He'll help you out in the end if you help him because he's pragmatic at times. You're useful and he does care for the city in a way. He's not dumb. Powerful heroes are useful allies if you can manipulate them by playing to their morals.
