Combat is unnecessarily long and skill checks failure is punished for no reason
Now dont get me wrong I think that this game is absolutly great: the story, characters, dialoge etc. Its easly one of mine favorite games but Im now at mine 3th playthrough and I have noticed the pattern that I felt in my every playthrough of this game and its the fact that the combat is just boring slog and slows down the pace of the main plot.
Its fine at the act 1 because you fight with small teams of strong enemies but the act 2 and act 3 is just such a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Some encounters can take up even 30-40 minutes because of how many enemies you have to fight especially moonrise towers and loading the failed encounter even prolongs the combat even further.

Baldurs gate 1 & 2 didn't had this problem because the combat there was made in real time and all the rolls were made behind the screen in a instant and animations were much faster so one round/action was 6 real time seconds so for example if you are fighter then you hit faster because figher has more actions for attacking where in BG3 1 round sometimes take from 1-2 minutes.
I feel like making most encounters have 50% less enemies but have them much stronger would make the game better and more enjoyable or adding an option that allows you to fast forward enemy turn in a instant.

Also my second hurdle is the fact that in dialogue most skill checks that end up in failure bring nohing intresting to the game and just lock you out form hearing intresting dialogue or maybe something else or sometimes force you into ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ encounter that most people will probably just save scum out of it. When you play D&D with friends and a dungeon master then failing something is still part of the game and brings the adventure to the intresting outcomes but in BG3 failing something punishes you for no reason or just simply locks you out from certian choices in the game which is exacly why so many people just save scum the game.
In Disco Elysium failed skill checks sometimes gave you such intresting and funny outcomes that it was even better to fail them rather than succeeding them, for example failing certian empathy skill check gave you totally unique questline in that game that you would not get if you didint failed it because in that game failure is part of it.

I think they want you to fail so when you play again it’s slightly different (if your new character is strong in a different area)

Sorry, but just need more experience in playing BG3. Combat is not a 'slog' and skill checks are not unfair or uninteresting. Just my opinion, of course.

Good Luck finding a better CRPG than BG3. :)

Bruh, did you even read what I wrote? Im not talking about difficulty or balance or the game being unfair.
Im talking about the sheer amout of encouters that this game has and how long they are and failing dialogue locks you out form hearing intresting lore or dialogue. It has nothing to do with the experience or difficulty because i didint even talked about these subjects.

BG3 is not BG1/2 and is not trying to be BG1/2. That comparison ends right there.

A living DM turns failures into variable opportunities on-the-fly, but a digital DM can only go by its script which will be based on 2 things, current story conditions present and a success or fail. That determines what will happen next. In BG3, a success isn't always a good thing and a failure isn't always a bad thing. It just makes things go in different directions and has different content likewise. Disco Elysium does the same thing, but it has a different tone to the game in general.

The common threads are "This isn't like BG1/2," and "I don't wanna fail any rolls, and I wanna see all the content in one run." BG3 will not provide, either.

Thats not the point. Im not talking about difficulty. Im talking about how combat in this game is so long. Sure cheating would make the game faster but it trivializes the game to the point that collecting gear leveling up etc. is not important anymore.

You are allowed to, and WILL miss content during a playthrough. That has nothing to do with RNG or checks, either. There are simply mutually exclusive choices present in the game.

There's a lot less combat than BG 1 and 2 though, so being slower doesn't even make it come close to matching how much combat those had.

There’s been a move away from that but I’m glad it’s back

Same
I had to actively try to make long combats happen. Not sure how you're stumbling across those situations, unless you just aren't very good with basic combat strategy.

The combat is the only reason I play. That and some of the scenery is pretty cool.

If they simplified the combat I'd be gone.

You are NOT wrong. Good analysis.

They need more enemies and stronger enemies. I'm sure neither of us will have our wish granted.

not quite as strong as this but generally the same sentiment, if this game was rtwp i would have a far less enjoyable experince.

D&D has always been a turn based game and not being such in bg1/2 was one of its many failings.

and personally, failing skill checks and having to work around that is part of the fun, in this game your never stonewalled because of it, but in many actual official D&D adventure paths it can outright lock you out of things.
