What is holding ALT supposed to highlight?
I'm a bit confused because i thought it would highlight anything lootable/interactive yet here i am standing in a room with chests that have loot in them and pressing the key only highlighted a book oon the floor.

It's pretty selective in what it highlights. You use it to spot some items but need to mouse over for others.

Well.. it's supposed to be usable. But it just isn't. With "ALT" you will only see the "obvious" things but you will miss a lot, for instance:

-- Any barrel with potential food in it (that's a LOT of food)
-- Any "Row of books" or similar book cases (that's a LOT of scrolls, often blue/purple)

and so on. It's another dysfunctional thing the game has that never gets addressed. Honestly, it's a baseline QoL that we have a key which highlights actually important stuff - also sparing us the troubles of opening every container because who knows what can be inside.

The only workable solution here seems to be installing a mod.

But like I mentioned in the neighboring thread, wobbly scrotums and kissing animations top their priority list all the while the basic and really needed things are ignored.

Objects of interest. Generally.

I remember trying a mod for a day that tried to fix this and showed every interactible on screen. Talk about information overload.
I ended up uninstalling it and using alt only to find hidden stuff or too close together stuff.

I use the Improved UI mod, I think that helps with the left ALT highlighting.

The left Alt key is probably mapped to more than one thing. Usually 'Expand Tooltip'. Removing that binding has helped some people with this problem. It still doesn't highlight everything, but important stuff should show.

it seems to me it was changed a bit, it used to highlight everything in sight all around you, now it seems to be more camera dependent, so you have to pan the camera around for it to highlight stuff. Or maybe I'm just imagining things...

It doesn't show everything with gold value. You need to fully engage in using light sources to really spot each and every satchel.

Ive been known to blow up a room just to get all the loot on the floor, but beware it can break some items if you overdo it.
