Did anyone else not realise that the shadow lands was Act 2?
Per title. I kept thinking to myself that wow, these shadow cursed lands have an awful cool amount of content for the transition from act 1 to act 2, I can't wait until I get to Act 2. Only to later find out, I was in Act 2....

You should've gotten a pop up award for "leaving act 1" when you entered the shadow lands, it normally pops there or the Creche area.

What I find interesting is the in-between status of the Mountain Pass. It can be completed after the Wilderness zone, during the Underdark progress, or after entering (but not completing) the Shadow-Cursed Lands. The Underdark has a similar state in that one can go deal with much stuff in it (but not everything) after entering the Shadow-Cursed Lands from a different route, but entering the Underdark zones from the Wilderness zone doesn't immediately stop certain Wilderness zone quests like entering the Mountain Pass does.

The boundaries between Act 1 and 2 are fuzzy. The boundary with Act 3 is far more strict as there's a point of no return to zones prior to the Shadow-Cursed Lands, followed by no access to the Shadow-Cursed Lands shortly after. There is a specific warning for when Act 2 begins, but unlike Act 3, it doesn't affect absolutely everything except all quests in the Wilderness zone.
