You can trade with your blood to get explosives. That is if you have proceeded with her offer of drinking the potion. Keep in mind that the potion is a mixed blessing depending on what role your character plays in the party and their resistances.
And an answer to your question: no. She is only interested in your blood. She is a professional.
Initially when you meet her, she takes the blood of every true soul who is willing.
And maybe some more.
Araj is one freaky mad scientist. So her Mysterious Potion, after damaging you, will make your blood flammable. Yep, now when you bleed out, you can set your blood on fire. Doesn't quite seem that useful, but hey ...
I think if you continue to agree being her lab rat (it damages you each time), she eventually will start giving you "sanguine explosives," which are basically exploding blood bombs. They deal some fire and force damage. I think you can only donate enough blood to get 2 per LR again according to the Wiki.
I also think if you didn't give her Astarion's vampire blood in Act 2, she will offer to get some of it in Act 3. But her previous offer of racial ability potions is gone.
If you don't want to be her lab rat, she's otherwise a typical apothecary merchant (as she was in Act 2), selling alchemy ingredients & potions.
BTW, it might be a serious clue to you that when you first find her apothecary shop in the city, it definitely looks like most of it has been leveled in an explosion.
I... killed Araj in my second run. It happened in Act 3. By Astarion's hand.
My bard was no saint but learned a lot more than he wanted about her
Araj having an actually believable, relatable, lore-fitting story with her not being an uber-duper-special cookie (like, for instance, a super-talented AND goddess' chosen AND an arch-mage AND with the orb in the chest AND given a mission by the goddess herself) is what makes me want her to be a companion so much. Oh .. and not to mention her great voice and one of the few faces that could actually be considered at least somewhat pretty.
P.S. It's actually funny how even now Araj is more influential on the party than many of the decisions PC might (not) take even though she's just a background NPC - simply because she sells arguably one of the most powerful items in the entire game and for incredibly cheap too.
I am team Minthara and Viconia (as a companion in earlier games), actually. I did not hate Araj but there was always something off about her. Her appearance and voice are fine, though.
Big spoiler about Araj in Act 3
Have you visited her basement in Baldur's Gate? She is Balthazar 2.0 Although I tolerate and even enjoy morally grey and even a bit evilish runs, the mad scientist trope gives me the creep
And then again, should Araj be a companion with the origin story, who said MC couldn't "fix her"? It'd be pretty cool to do that and go for both redemption arc and a power-play at the same time. Alas. There are too many mr. and ms. "uniqueness" already, no space left for the classics.
Should coulda been an alchemist rogue like braccus wroot but they don’t tick any agenda boxes
Of course.
My type of main characters are completely fine with him and his deeds (although the Ascended Astarion did tread that line a bit with the said bard; why he ascended... my bard messed up). There is at least one murder done for his sake in Act 1 (the hunter). In general, the type of characters I play are not judgy. But there is something chilling about the mad scientist trope that is very hard to forgive.
Ah, Balthazar is way worse than Astarion. B. acts out of his own free will while Astarion has been coerced in several ways. For centuries.
P.S. It would be foolish to mix our world morals with those in the game, so don't worry about it. Discuss freely.
P.S. 2 Please note I also do not judge anybody for liking Araj. Far from it. I was simply sharing my experiences with her (and that she has relatively well concealed darker side
Again, bear in mind, when you arrive at her apothecary shop, it's obvious most of it has been levelled in a massive explosion.
Oh sure, sweetie, I'm gonna give you my blood. Totally safe. Explosive combustible blood, that's what everybody wants!
Risky but... errr... safe!
