Can't launch game anymore
Recently decided to go through a second playthrough.

But whenever I launch the game I just get a crash an error like it won't even launch the game and I verified the files and everything.

I have yet to uninstall the whole thing and reinstall it as that's the last thing I want to do with the size of the game.

I'm assuming it's one of the updates that has caused this because it used to launch no problem.

Using Mods now or have ever used Mods with BG3?

No, no mods or anything like that and I verified all the game files and everything.

Ensure all your mods are up to date.

Ensure your drivers are up to date.

OR

Turn off / uninstall all of your mods.
Then verify files again.
Run without mods.

OR

Get rid of all of your mods and then uninstall completely - go into the directory for the game files (wherever you install your steam games) and delete the folder there too and reinstall. See if game works.

The latest fixes bugged a lot of mods to the point of not being able to open the game.

Yes, I am focusing on "mods" because 90% of the time that's what stops the game opening at all.

Ok. Where exactly does it Crash? What type of Crash? Any Error message? Does the PC System log have information on the Crash?

I'm having the a similar problem. My files are fine, everything is up to date, no mods, yet the direct x error messages still closes my game.

Share a DxDiag report if you wish further assistance. And make sure that each case has their own thread so things do not mix up.

If "DWrite.dll" Shows up as "DWrite" rename the .symlink file to have the ".dll" at the end.
I have no idea how this file ends up jacked up I've been having the same problem with this game crashing on launch, even after buying a new computer fresh install on a brand new drive, still no go. until i read someone suggest bypassing Larians launch.
When I atempted a direct launch I got and ERROR message saying DWrite.dll was not found. so I renamed the file and now it works.
GOTY 10/10 no bug never crashes. Man fanboy a annoying. This game runs worse than a Bethesda title.
Rant over hope my blind luck get's you back in the game o7

Your rant only shows you have no idea what you are ranting about. That file is not a game file. It is a mod file. For mods related issues consult the mods authors, instead ranting about making it look like a game bug while it actually is not.

If you are currently using mods or have used them previously, they may be what is causing this issue. It’s best to double check that all mod files are completely removed. To do so, check the 'Mods' and 'Public' folders in the '..\SteamApps\common\Baldurs Gate 3\Data' folder, etc; and if present, both folders are safe to delete. If applicable, you can also delete the modsettings.lsx file in the profile folder.

You are also going to need to check the local AppData folder for the current user account: '..\SteamApps\common\Baldurs Gate 3\Data' as any old mod files may have been copied over to there. To do this, copy the following line into the location bar in Explorer and hit Enter: %LocalAppData%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\Mods
Delete any files you find there

Mod issues are no game issues. They never were.

Haven't had this issue, but I'll be saving this for later just in case I ever get this issue.

I'm in a love-hate relationship with the game. It's better than a lot of games in most aspects and very polished, but in the areas it's not, it's worse than bad: it's intolerable.

Getting things to work right when they fail colossally isn't fun.
