Baldur's Gate 3

Baldur's Gate 3

Statistiche:
Poison is useless
If everyone is immune to poison, or instantly gets innoculated on the first attack thiers no point. It can be the rarest poison in the game but it still wont ever work.

Yep, the best (rarest) poisons
a) do the most damage per turn to the poisoned victims
b) have the most disabling effects (blindness, confusion, paralysis, etc.) with the hardest DC saves

And so, shock of all shocks, those poisons are also, being so rare, the hardest to make with alchemy, and the hardest to find at merchants.

Bearing in mind the game doesn't mechanically separate weapon poisons from other weapon coatings, check this chart. As always, rarest is best AND hardest to get.

https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Coatings

The very best -- the Very Rare Purple Worm Toxin and Thisobald's Bellyglummer.
The second best -- the Rare Malice, Karabasan's Poison, Wyvern Toxin, and Crawler Mucus.

Purple Worm Toxin does 1D10 poison damage per turn to the victim.
Bellyglummer does 1D6 damage per turn but can inflict Disadvantage to attacks and ability checks.

MHO: an essential part of any assassin's toolkit, and as I usually make Astarion my assassin, he's toting them around. But also, of course, many enchanted poison weapons ALSO can inflict raw poison damage as a damage type on hit. And then there are the ones that inflict Bleeding, which is a different DoT.

A poisoned AND bleeding victim is gonna die soon. Assassin's work done well. Just don't be foolish enough to combine them with Nonlethal attacks.

I keep grabbing every poison I find but every time I try to use them most of the enemies get inoculated. I don't know what the Constitution rolls are for each poison but they need to be higher.
Maybe you should look at the combat log. Or the wiki.

Just like everything in the game. it depends on the enemy.

Coating the weapon before the battle is free. So there is no real reason not to.
Coating is *not* free. It costs a bonus action.
This will not stop me from making my poison wizard work.

I'd suggest poison/necromancy wizard. If you get all the gear you can raise spell attack and save rolls insane, my brother is running a hold person/monster build his hit rate is like 80-90% on average lol

That's the game plan.

One of the frustrating things about this game is how all of the homebrew rules larian added actively make the game less fun. They arrived at the 5e result after years of development for a reason: it wasn't randomly selected.

And that reason was more $
Advanced dungeons and dragons was basically perfected by 2nd edition. WOTC took it and whored it out three more editions just consecutively making the game worse.

NGL, 2ndE was my favorite E.

That said, gettimg rid of THAC0 and introducing Bounded Accuracy are still two of the best changes D&D has ever made.
How the hell do you even make Purple Worm Toxin? The only recipe I got out of the book was for this Bellyglummer garbage.
I will say that coating Arrows of Many Targets in Drow poison is kinda cool.

Mostly you don't make it. It requires finding three "purple worm gullets", which you are only guaranteed to find one time (in the back room of the cursed tavern). However, you can find it for sale from some vendors.
Get an Alchemist. They can make it. But it's a class mod. :steamhappy:

(P.S. there's three versions of an Alchemist class at this point, but I'm talking about the one that actually integrates with the in-game alchemy recipes/systems. Anyway, their Doctrine of Cruelty subclass focuses on using and making poisons, and more to the point of this thread, overcoming poison immunity or resistance.)

Also, consider making a Yuan-Ti character, or taking the Serpentborn feat. (Yeah, those also require mods.)
Ya poison sucks.
There are not that many types of it, there isn't any way to brew more potent versions of them etc...
Same for curses, diseases etc....

5e nerfed all of them and limited how many there were massively while also giving a lot of creatures either resistances or flat out immunities to them.

Ah yes, also DnD rules implemented like in Solasta I'm glad it was an option to toggle where weilding weapons and casting aren't allowed, like really got to keep my hands free to cast spells? Lol
It's reasonable to say I can store the weapon to cast and pull it back out honestly glad they didn't go to crazy on the rules lawyer xD games should be more fun then mechanical.

I could not agree more.
That is the true spirit of playing D&D. :mhwgood:

Its also something a lot of people hate and why so many tables use a free feat.
Warcaster in table top is practically a must have to make gish styles work.

Can't tell you how happy a number of my players were after we swapped to PF2 and they realized the vast majority of spells could be done while holding a weapon, tool, wand or staff etc... in both hands.
And when one of them looked at the alchemist he practically had to change his shorts when he saw the list of different bombs, poisons, mutagens and medicines he could make.

The almost to a day year necro! Lol last post "Feb 7th" 🤣
The gods are happy today

Edit belly glummer is actually pretty good if used right but you only get 2 the entire game if you aren't willing to duplicate them by exploit methods lol

You can get more Corpse Roses in Act 3. So, no, you get way more than 2 the entire game. Have a Transmutation wizard at camp and you can make a lot of them.
