Playing multiplayer alone using mods
Is it impossible to launch two instances of bg3 after installing mods including the mod fixer?

the tldr:

I set up a game with two main characters for the second time a few days ago, and got myself in a situation where I wanted to run two instances again to force an interaction with one character as opposed to the default one the game insists on picking.

I've tried:
Launching two instances from the .exe (without steam running)
Starting one from the exe and one from steam
Starting one directly from the .exe and one from the mod manager

Nothing works, it just defaults to the game that's already launched.

I installed my mods *after* setting up the game. Prior to that I just had 2 insignificant cosmetic mods I installed manually.

I have no issues running two instances with mods. Try deactivating Steam autostart with Windows, then restart your PC before starting it using the executable.

THAT WORKED! Thank you!

What didn't work was what I was trying to do, which is quite hilarious.

I'm running Karlach origin and a Durge who wants to romance Astarion. Yesterday I got the bite scene and no matter what I tried, he only wanted to bite Karlach, who he has negative approval with. So i figured I'd force him to bite the Durge by running two instances and chaining him to the Durge. I spam rested and got every single cutscene in Act 1 - to the point where no cut scenes triggered anymore. I even adopted the owlbear :Owlcat_wink: and I'm not even done with the goblins. He outright refuses to bite the Durge.

I guess he can stay hungry then :steamhappy:

Now I am somewhat curious if he burns up in the process of biting Karlach... I need to test that. :mhwhappy:

I find it funny that the Gale/Astarion bite scenario plays out almost the same way (with few variations) regardless if either is the MC Origin or if Astarion is being controlled but not the MC. There's only a small difference if Astarion is the MC and succeeds or fails the necessary check for the neck.

I'm going to have Astarion make the rounds the next time I play with a full camp. (Scratch and cub will both get a turn, too. I just gotta know.)

To save a potentially long time just for that, yes. There's at least 3 variations: using the bite action, the sleep scene and another as part of the epilogue if you're playing Karlach and romancing ascended Astarion.

I bit all the innocent camp followers in Act 3 as Astarion just to see what happened. LOL.
