Toxic Femininity
I can no longer stay silent about the insidious infiltration of toxic femininity in Baldur's Gate 3. It seems the designers have unleashed an unrelenting army of overempowered, overachieving, and downright intimidating female NPCs upon us, turning the game into a predictable woke parade.

I couldn't help but notice the endless amounts of girl bosses with powers that defy reason. It's as if the designers dipped their quills in a well of feminist hyperbole and scrawled every cliché in the book. These characters exhibit traits of toxic femininity that are not just irritating but downright harmful to the gaming experience.

The overabundance of these powerful "women" has created a sense of monotony that rivals watching paint dry. Every encounter feels like a rerun of the previous one, with a seemingly infinite supply of indomitable female characters ready to showcase their prowess. It's like a never-ending loop of predictable girl power moments that leave you longing for a bit of diversity in character dynamics.

This undermines the very essence of challenge and accomplishment in the game. Where's the thrill in overcoming obstacles when every antagonist you face is an all-conquering femme fatale? It's as if the designers believe empowerment can only be achieved by diminishing the strength and agency of male characters, perpetuating a skewed and harmful view of gender dynamics.

They've also made every male NPC except for maybe Halsin, a helpless damsel in distress, as if to suggest that men are incapable of handling adversity. This blatant role reversal does nothing but perpetuate stereotypes and further entrench the toxic notion that one gender is superior to the other.

I am not even going to begin to touch on the myriad of sexually ambiguous LGBTQ+ characters that constantly hit on the player relentlessly. That's a topic for another day.

the REAL MEN crowd coming out once more to remind us all that they're terribly insecure and easily threatened

Some of those radical feminists, they kinda throw shade on the real wholesome ladylike qualities, like being loyal, sensitive, caring about their looks, and avoiding conflict. They label these as "toxic femininity". But the kicker is, they rarely talk about how trying to morph a woman into a manlike figure could be seen as pretty toxic itself. It's a real conundrum, trying to figure out where the line is between celebrating femininity and crossing over into something that ain't quite right.

That's a good point, Banelord. There's no right answer, only a natural equilibrium.

The more insufferable they are, the more satisfying it is to kill them, given that the game at least allows one to do so (which is a huge point in its favour).

This comes from someone who actually likes the "lady of battle" archetype and well-made female power figures. Those differ greatly from the stand-ins for modern "strong women" who think that the right way to go about being one is to embrace about every obnoxious traditionally "masculine" trait there is.

So at least the developers deserve a bit of credit for allowing the players to sell Aylin to about the slimiest man there is, or have Isobel turn into a shadow revenant.

I'm kind of sympathetic to OP, but can we get some specifics?

The closest I think we get to toxic femininity is Auntie Ethel, the twisted mother who will nurture you to death.
Isn't Auntie Ethel more of a Dommy Mommy?

Smallswords (piercing only) are in fact long enough, what with them being misnamed as rapiers (slashing / piercing) all the time. It's the girth that's "small" in their case.

Like someone said, toxic feminity is different, here is more akin to exaggerate feminism (which in nowadays preach more masculine women than anything).

Larian overdid a LOT in the number of women in this game in fighters\boss positions or overall "common man class" since violence and aggression is a male trait and females are more kind and pacific. They probably wanted equilibrium in this but grotesquely missed the mark, it turn very disbalanced\weird.

There was one or two really feminine chars in the whole game in comparison to the predominant Gigantor style of women hahaha

Hell, initially I thought it was some hidden lore where most of man died or it is in few numbers to this discrepancy but after the ridiculous responses in my thread other day it's very clear it was deliberately Larian decision because yes
