not using illithid powers
is there a path for not using any illithid power and not talking to the vision or is it a dead stupid end ? please no spoilers

Hmmm. no spoilers. Look. you asked, so I'm going to answer, which is, I guess a spoiler. I mean if you didn't want spoilers, you shouldn't have asked.

-- there is no objective downside to gaining the powers, although if you take the Astral Tadpole, your character gets a nasty visual effect of black veins & bulgy eyes. That is it, objectively, and there's even mods to get rid of this appearance if you don't want to look at it - I can tell you no one else will comment on or notice it.

-- there is no objective benefit to "remaining pure". You are missing out on powers I find pretty useful.

... there appears to be a cut "Daisy" plotline for the game where gaining the powers might have had more consequence. No one knows for sure how that would have played out, but it's not part of the game now.

... this is something you can learn from guides, forum posts, or just a single playthrough of the game. Now I respect RP purists who would insist if you start a new character, they must fully role play as if that character couldn't know what they now know. I respect them, I just don't play that way. In the end, "play as you like".

You can not use illithid powers if you like, you cannot avoid the dream stuff.

you don't have to use illithid powers

although there is no downside to using them

the game gives you an opition; you're free to pick which choice

if you use them you gain some neat powers; if you don't use them you only really miss out on the free powers which you don't really *need* to play or beat the game anyway

so in the end it doesn't matter, just pick whichever choice fits the character you're playing

There is some if acquire more tadpoles on your main character. You might get partially(!) transformed, even if you don't want it. Otherwise, you can skip the saving throw.

In general, I've barely used it. In my last run, I got one on Astarion and I have Minthara who comes with 5-6 tadpole powers (i also added one for the autocrit). The others are extra tadpole free.

seems like theres no path for those refusing free powers like you have in pathfinder wrath of the righteous

there's no "path" either way

they're there regardless; use them or don't, only thing that changes is certain dialogue

Visual effect, if you take a second choice, but can be mod-nullified.

you only get partially transformed if you choose to. There is litteraly a whole conversation revolving around it. Stop spreading misinformation

You can refuse to use illithid powers and eat tadpoles. This is not dead end. My first walkthrough was like this. This is quite interesting. In that case dream vision would try to convice you change your mind. Again. And again. This is funny.

i'm just so surprised everyone just use the power knowing it comes from illithid and dream visitor is very insisting and not giving any reason to trust.

I've played playthroughs with a 'never use' mentality and another where I went the other way.

The greatest compliment I can give this game as that both playthroughs are unique and terrific.

Think that might largely have to do with people looking up spoilers or asking questions like the OP instead of just playing and discovering for themselves.

The general difference between meta gaming and role playing.

Some people want to know, will anything happen, others simply ask whether the character they made would logically do it or not.

Frankly the only one I intend on going into the powers in any heavy manner, happens to be the warlock doing old ones pact. I can rationalize an actual desire to become illithid, due to how closely that pact parallels the mythos of Clthulu and tentacles in non D&D settings.

there's no benefit sadly to staying pure, as I've found out
