although there is no downside to using them
if you use them you gain some neat powers; if you don't use them you only really miss out on the free powers which you don't really *need* to play or beat the game anyway
so in the end it doesn't matter, just pick whichever choice fits the character you're playing
There is some if acquire more tadpoles on your main character. You might get partially(!) transformed, even if you don't want it. Otherwise, you can skip the saving throw.
In general, I've barely used it. In my last run, I got one on Astarion and I have Minthara who comes with 5-6 tadpole powers (i also added one for the autocrit). The others are extra tadpole free.
they're there regardless; use them or don't, only thing that changes is certain dialogue
you only get partially transformed if you choose to. There is litteraly a whole conversation revolving around it. Stop spreading misinformation
The greatest compliment I can give this game as that both playthroughs are unique and terrific.

Think that might largely have to do with people looking up spoilers or asking questions like the OP instead of just playing and discovering for themselves.
The general difference between meta gaming and role playing.
Some people want to know, will anything happen, others simply ask whether the character they made would logically do it or not.
Frankly the only one I intend on going into the powers in any heavy manner, happens to be the warlock doing old ones pact. I can rationalize an actual desire to become illithid, due to how closely that pact parallels the mythos of Clthulu and tentacles in non D&D settings.
