The Act 3 intro battle (need advice)
SPOILERS AHEAD:

So I have survived balphazar, kethric thorm and other fights by the skin of my teeth. But by changing my strategy and being persistent I eventually win. (I'm playing only normal difficulty too) This one seems impossible.

This battle with the githyanki monks that bum rush my party at night are absolutely pounding us into dust. We just turned level 8, these guys are all Level 9. They break concentration on my spells by slapping me around. I have Tav (Sorcerer), Halsin (Owlbear mode), Shadow Heart, and Asterion (trickster) I started to get some good hits in by having Asterion sneak and stay hidden. Shadowheart is able to dodge most of the attacks but even with her new spear she isn't getting enough damage in. My sorcerer cant focus on spells for long, I had Haste to try to keep up with their speed but broke concentration.

I was able to barely make it to the part where the mindflayer is asking us to kill the general. The mindflayer isn't really helpful in this fight. And Asterion has been beaten to a 1 HP pulp. Do I need a different ensemble?

struggled on this fight myself; it kinda comes at you from nowhere and it's a bit ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

gith are a pain to fight in general but these gith in particular are extra annoying

all i can suggest is getting more heavy hitters; lae'zel, minthara, karlach - whoever you got that can take punishment and dish it out in equal measure

You can surprise them from their left if you stealth up on them from that side (by the barn/shed). The archers use Oil of Diminution on their crossbows and have arrows that hit multiple people at once making melees weaker against them so take them out ASAP or stun them.

I cant remember what fight is that Im about to beat the last brain boss.

I suggest you lose halsin or astarion and get laazel

Twin some hold person on your Sorc, use some speed potions if you can't keep Haste up, slap some poisons on Astarion.

If this is the fight where you are ambushed in the new camp between Act 2 and Act 3? And need to get to the Portal?

If so: All you need is to get ONE party member to the Portal and click on it. Misty Step, Dimension Door, Enhanced Leap. Whatever. Then fight is done and done. No need to kill anyone. :)

Use all the cool consumables you probably been hoarding till now. Haste pots, elixirs, void bulbs and aoe. Consider respec Astarion into thief for extra action and evade, arcane rogue is lacking tbh. That or swap him for another aoe full caster.

That strategy applies to the assualt on your camp.
If I'm not misfaken, OP refers to the ambush by the Gith on the road to the exit to act 3.
It's a bit confusing as the qmbush would be more rightly called the act 2 exit fight while that assualt is the true Act 3 intro fight.
Let's not dishearten OP too much though 😄

Actually, I believe the OP is describing the battle you get AFTER going through the portal based on the last paragraph. I assume by "the mindflayer that isn't really useful" they are talking about the Emperor. Because it is then that you are facing a bunch of Githyanki monks.... (i.e. Orpheus' Royal Guard).

Could be.

The vast majority of the post was on the Camp Ambush. Only a mention of getting to the Islands and no real question there. I think the OP was decimated by the Camp Ambush and wanted to know how to even get to the Islands section in one piece.

Don't have anything for him on the Island fights. They are really straight forward and no one who has made it that far should have any problem at all. Of course, it is stated that the party is only Level 8 and so is seriously under-level. On my latest play through, my party was Level 10 going into Act 3. So, there is that.

If it hasn't been patched out, Jaheira's dryad summon can kill them all as long as the party has not started the dialogue with the mindflayer - the monks will keep hitting and missing the intellect devourers.

The lack of options in that encounter was disappointing - can't persuade, bluff, intimidate or even just sneak past, and impossible to return to the previous area to get XP or consumables either.

Meh. I guess OP abandoned the thread right after it was made. Guess I will as well. :)

I didn't abandon! I've been reading and taking the advice, and I finally won! So thank you everyone for the excellent feedback.

Now I am stuck figuring out if I want to turn into the partial mindflayer!

I love the powers you can get but I also am nervous about the downside (which I am sure there will be one). Also I don't want my BG girlfriend to dump me for looking like a freak. :gaper:

I tried it just to see. You just get black eyes and some black veins on your skin and you get some serious abilities in return. I'm just wondering about the long-term downside.
