Replace spell on level up fails

Anyone else encountered this issue?

For the second time now, I want to replace Hail of Thorns on my ranger with another spell. It doesn't work, I can still only see Hail of Thorns in my spellbook and not the new spell I chose :S

I have no idea how to clear up the game cache so I definitely didn't. I'm very close to level 6 atm, will try again and take screenshots before/after.

This drives me nuts. Every time I level up Gayle it resets his "memorised" spells to the base list he started with, and I have to manually go in and change it back to the one's I wanted him to have selected. And because I'm old I sometimes forget until combat starts and I realise I can't find the spell I wanted to cast because the game has reset his memorised spells again.

I don't use mods at all.

With the Ranger it may have been a one time bug or my own error somehow. I was able to replace spells on level up this time. I could've sworn I tried at least two times before and it failed, but at least it worked this time so I'm happy :)
