That said, I personally am rather impressed --
The author of "Fantastical Multiverse" mod adds not 1, not 2, but 50+ new races to the game.
The 5E Spells Mod adds, IIRC, about 20-30 new spells to the game that Larian did not include originally from 5E source material.
People have added entirely complete and absolutely working new classes to the game. People say Larian should add the Artificer to the game. Well, why wait? The class is THERE at Nexus and READY to go NOW.
I have a Drow Equipment Pack where the author has managed to add around 20 or so new pieces of armor, weapons, and gear that are drow themed.
Two extremely popular things for players - using parties larger than 4. or levelling your character past 12, are both available as mods. I'm using both.
MHO: given what limited access modders have been given to underlying things forced a guy named Norbyte to write a tool to script the game, because otherwise there is no way to touch the scripts it's running. But, in fact, now with Norbyte's SE installed, you can entirely and completely (for example) change the way players acquire Minthara into the party; that's the Daughter of Lolth mod.
So my position? Given how little they had to work with by Larian themselves, modders have done some rather amazing work. I know I'm enjoying using them. Praise be to the modders, they are one reason I replayed the game several times.
It is cheap to throw low quality mods "on the market" for easy money.
