Watered Down Sex Scenes
I played EA but never triggered romance BUT I am curious if the sex scenes were originally intended to be more raunchy. Its no secret that the scenes are really vanilla and a little meh, what with them usually been awkward kissing followed by fade to black. I wonder if that was always the intention or if Larian received a memo to tune it down. Thoughts?

I remember a lot of men of a certain mindset "warning" women that they'd be "replaced" by robots for being too "uppity". Seems like it'd be a good investment!

Scenes are pretty on par for romantic love scenes.
They're tame for porn hub or 'dating sims' but well enough for a high point in a romantic storyline. Of course if you've been putting up with the emotional stuff in hopes of a fapping moment, then yeah. You've been playing the wrong game.

I disagree

The romantic scenes lack any passion or romance IMHO that you see in shows rated lower than mature

It's a little bit hard to convey human romantic passion when you are animating 3D models to move in sync. I think the mo cap does a really good job with realistic facial expressions and the VAs are often quite good at delivering lines, but at the end of the day, I kinda think technologically "realistic passion" is just too hard to convey in a video game. People should set their expectations realistically.

Simulating romantic passion with human actors is hard enough; (again I'm talking about R rated films, not X rated where ACTUAL sex might be occurring) it's even harder to do with current 3D animation tech and 3D modelling.

Ah, yes, the devs' mythical "ideology". Simultaneously the cause of "sexual deviancy" in the game AND the fact that there's no actual sex in the game (Minthara's scene being the closest it gets, despite also fading to black).

It's not a myth:

Lead character artist Alena Dubrovina quoted in a kotaku interview:
https://kotaku.com/baldurs-gate-3-character-creator-races-genitals-options-1850653066

...“My personal experience with most [slider-based character creators] is you kind of customize it, it takes you a lot of time and effort, and then a lot of times it kind of looks the same in the end,” she said. “So we wanted to avoid that. And if we would make sliders, we needed to make it into something that would be truly unique and wouldn’t look the same.”...

basically a feminist ideological stance to remove (the default options without mods) because she felt guys would always move the boob slider to max and make all the characters look the same. Feminist Ideology is likely also applied to the romance scenes. I don't really care much about those. What I don't like choice taken away to make my RPG characters look the way I want them too whether it's tall, skinny, fat, big this or big that.
None of that article said anything you did. You just inserted a wild, sexist theory on top of it

Side note though given how much people were losing their minds over the sex scene when the game launched, I did expect more. You had multiple front page threads of trolls calling the game straight up porn and all of the scenes are typical fade to black

Wouldn't huge boobs be unfavorable in combat? They should give -1 penalty to attack rolls.

Hey, or they can give two extra unarmed attacks, "Supercow al rescate!" style. :steamhappy:

There're no "sex" scenes, raunchy or not. To an extent is almost like BG2... With the full black night screen being replaced by watching you lying with your partner and then... Black screen (lol). The genitals configuration options must be the most useless piece of code EVER programmed into a computer game.

I'd consider the genital setup a flavor detail tbh
Don't really need it, but it exists to add flavor to your character

Well... They didn't care about the people complaining about the racial and sexual, ahem, "diversity" so... One more complaining crowd wouldn't hurt, no?

Quite right. And at this point, two options:

You defend the "this is a fantasy world" in which women can sport huge boobs and still be equal to men in swordsmanship or (laughs) shooting an arrow, and "anything goes because, hey, it's fantasy" or...

... You defend historically correct parallelism which should exist even in a fantasy world if the fantasy world sports historical earth weapons, myths and legends, and indeed, women with big boobs would have problems in pursuing anything but a domestic life...
Women with small boobs would be fine on adventuring though.

Are we being presented with a false dilemma? 🤔

Historically correct? Earth exists in forgotten realms lore. BG3 takes place in the year 2122 AD on earth, 1492 DR on Toril, 98 years in the future

Just curious. In Spelljammer, can you travel to Earth from Toril? (I haven't played, but I'm guessing the answer is yes.)

In Starfinder, the sci-fi version of Pathfinder, 'earth' (not called that -- the name of the world WAS Golarion) 3rd planet from the sun has been destroyed already.
