Yes it does if you want to deal the extra damage !
its not free. wtf. If you want to deal the extra damage, thats when it uses the reaction. sure it a free attack but we all want that damage boost.
It does not. You can enable it in the reaction menu in the same way as Divine Smite so you can choose to use it on a specific attack without using the Sneak Attack action if the conditions are met.
So why uncanny dodge is not triggering for Astarian everytime he gets attacked?, If it does not use a reaction slot? where can we see if our reaction slot is used or not?
Check your action bars for Sneak Attack (melee) and Sneak Attack (ranged).
You only get one Reaction per round. Once you use Uncanny Dodge once, that's it until his turn comes around again and refreshes his actions and Reaction.
Sneak Attack is also used automatically with any eligible attack with an eligible weapon, and you can go into your Reactions menu to modify this behavior to prevent overkill damage on a low HP target. You don't need to use the Sneak Attack button at all.
It's a tactical choice between using one or the other (but yes, the UI is messy about it and the game doesn't explain well that you don't have to use your sneak attack reaction all the time)
And that's fair, I merely wanted to highlight a detail of this post (particularly since I've seen OP get ultra defensive on feedback, so my sus alarms went up) that may be of import to other users.
Now as for the actual answer, I honestly don't know why Uncanny Dodge isn't proccing in the situation described, but I also hardly ever use the damn ability in the first place, nor have I felt an impact in not using it (most of the time the ROG with the passive is far out of threat range to begin with or is specced to hell on AC/saving throw boosting gear that they rarely if ever get hit in the first place).
