Will go college of lore, at level 4 will take feat to grab +1 strength and heavy armor proficiency. Dumping strength to 8 and relying on hill giant potions is more efficient but it feels very cheasy. Probably no multiclassing.

Here is more food for thoughts: gold warves gives you +12 maximum hitpoints in total over the time reaching the level cap.

If the race looks selection is mostly the same, you are even better with Duergar, and you just change skin and hair colour to make them look like a gold dwarf. That way you get more useful race abilities.

That is, if you think it is important enough to pick race for such passives is worth it. I personally always recommend to pick the race you feel comfortable most, which you feel you can have fun to identify with, regardless of benefits.

Otherwise Wood Elf is easily superior for their extra movement in combat.

Food for thoughts ~

Even in tabletop - gold dwarf was a better option most of the time. Shield dwarf had advantage of having +2 in both str and con. But larian removed it and not given anything in return.

Also, the most op race is probably githyanki. 5-4 extra proficiency, it is insane.

That is the point. While I am very well familiar with nearly all p&p rules, including Tasha, the Baldur's Gate 3 rules are different and the setting as video game needs a different approach.

Like the fact e.g. there are no requirements for multiclassing like you know from p&p.

And the ability score boni... Well, they are supposed to be officially released in May with the new edition as they are currently already Unearthed Arcana material.
Overall if your just doing a normal build looks fine I see no problem, beard jokes aside.

Meta build? Some spoilers ahead.

Without cheese? I'd suggest 17 charisma so you can get easy 18 after hag, if your doing a caster bard, later in the game if you choose powers over not you can get proficient in all the talking like intimidation can reassign them then.

There is a way in game I believe to boost charisma thru gear to 24 I think you gotta grab some specific stuff idk where it's all at just heard about it, and a melee weapon to apply the cha modifiers twice as well? With heavy armor would be pretty solid.
