Holy crap, is it THAT big? The only time I ever used it was when I decided to barrelmance the final phase of the end boss. It usually just sits in my inventory forever. But if it's that big, then I might have to have some fun with it.

Best strategy i found was to invoke a familiar/summon, drop an alchemy vial at the side of powder barrels (used this on normal powder kegs) and make the familiar/summon hit the alchemy vial. You don't need to be even in the same screen (with your party) to make the blast happen.
A radius of 60 ft. That's 120 ft from end to end. I can't think of many entire battles that take place in an area larger than that. Crazy. @_@
I got gameover every single time i tried to use the damning barrel, except with the summon + alchemist fire strategy.
