One one hand this is Divinity Original Sin so you need more strength to throw people and barrels around, but on the other hand you can just farm potions of x giant strength at various points in the game, so strength is still ultimately pointless unless you're speedrunning
It only costs 100gp to do so, so it's typically seen as good to adjust your points to go to other stats if it means you can have an EK with 23 STR and 20 INT, or a BRB with 20 DEX and 23 STR/CON, etc.
Whether you want to do that or not is ultimately your choice. You'll still get a benefit from the gloves even if your character had a 20 STR at the time of gaining the gloves.
That said, you'll want to compare this to the other glove options to see if they are an equal or greater benefit, and to be honest, gloves are HOT commodity items for builds between Luminous Gloves, Soulcatching Gloves, Sparkle Hands, Helldusk Gloves, Winter's Clutches, Gloves of Thievery, Bonespike Gloves, etc.
There's a non-zero chance that the Giant Strength gloves might not be as much of a stat increase as you might think, if it means giving up attack advantage, or the Frost mechanics on a cold build, or bonus damage, or SoH advantage for lockpicking/pickpocketing, etc.
Ultimately, the answer to this question is ultimately a personal one that only you can really answer. I can only give considerations and recommendations.
