Battle with Sarevok and knights, etc. (confused)
So went to temple of Baal looking for my kidnapped party member( I have not yet defeated the Brain or Gortash). I pot past the knights at the door carrying a bag of stinky. But then failed Sarevok dice rolls - battle ensues. I eventually killed all Sarevok's knights and minions - then he just stopped fighting and all of a sudden we are no longer in turned based battle mode. Saravok then casually walks to his chair and sits down with the three see-through ghosts around him and he instantly gains his full 262 hit points back( I had him down to about 60 when this happened).

I saved as I don't know what just happened- but that was a tough fight and I proceed to loot the knights ( find the key) , go through the door into the jail cell areas - my kidnapped party member is not there.

Then I go over to talk to him and he yells "Interloper" and he attacks me.

Can somebody explain what happened? Do I have to re-battle Saravok with his full 262 hit points when most of my party is very damaged? I am confused?

So I can't explain to you what just happened as it sounds very bug-a-rific ...

That said, Sarevok does NOT have your kidnapped party member.

Orin does. You're going to need to get the Amulet of Bhaal from Sarevok to get into the Temple of Bhaal. THAT is where Orin is holding your kidnapped party member.

The only person Sarevok should have as a prisoner, normally, is the Hollyphant "Detective" Valeria.

well , just one more act 3 bug. So, sure enough I battled him again, took 3 tries before my whole party does not die because it kept skipping my turns on party members and their various helpers. Finally killed him. Obviously, the bugs in act 3 are kinda ridiculous. So , now limping along badly, hope I can long rest before I face Orin - is there a time frame issue?

Some Reddit posts claim that, but I find Reddit ... unreliable. Bg3 wiki doesn't appear to say so. So I would say no. No time frame issue.

I always kill the knights before entering the room. Don't even talk.

I had the exact same thing you say with Sarevok, but it was a little more explainable in my case. I dominated him. He fought with me (green). Fight was quick. Domination ran out he turned yellow went and sat at his chair. I talked and he called me an interloper and the fight began.

BTW, I've found if all you do is close the door so they can't see what's going on inside, the Blackguards outside will not come in and help Sarevok. After you finish him off, you'll find them dead outside, apparently only his power was sustaining them.

I'm pretty daft about a lot of things, admittedly, but I figured this out on my own, and it's a nice and simple hack. It definitely seems in this game "if they can't see it happening, they don't react". Just closing the door keeps them out of the fight.

Weird, I killed him first and that killed the knights automatically.

Yeah, that would jibe with my observation that "it's his power that is sustaining them".

I enjoy combat. It's the only reason I play.

I find the story painful.

I don't dislike the combat, I often enjoy it, I fully admit I use mods that tweak it, at least lately, anyway, of course. I don't crave difficulty, Tactician is as hard as I will go, and I don't use any mods to up it. Custom ... needs more options. Honor ... not doing it with the # of bugs still in the game, and anyway, I hate ironman/hardcore runs generally.

I also like it when the game offers alternatives to it, like resolving situations through dialogue.... my Bard in particular enjoyed convincing enemies to kill themselves, which you can do in several encounters. Because of plot-on-rails triggers for most, you can't entirely stealth around many encounters, but stealth can help set up giving you advantage in many of them.

The only downside in my stealth assassination tactics is sometimes you miss out on dialogue interactions.

I guess I like both the combat and story and enjoy both, but, hey, to each their own.

I know what you mean. I started going through the dialog but a lot of them are genuinely disturbing. I mean, man, the people who thought this stuff up are very strange indeed. the whole Bhaalspawn stuff is messed up.
