Astarion refusing to jump
Is it just my luck or has anyone else run into this issue? Every single other companion will jump over near everything we have to jump over...except for Mr. Special. He has caused me more headaches than all the others combined, solely for that reason. Absolutely love this game and his character with the exception of his refusal to jump.

Most likely reason: he's too weak. Literally. Jump distance depends on Athletics if I recall - which scales with STR and proficiency. He has neither.

Even if he has enough in him to make the "leap of faith", generally he has a smaller jump radius which makes his path-finding struggle way more often because it cannot find the routes that would otherwise be possible with a larger radius.

I understand the strength bit, however when I take control of him, there is zero issue in jumping the distance required. It just seems like a flat refusal to do the thing most times. In the approach to the Nightsong area where you just float down, he never even jumped off the first platform. I had to manually move him the entire way down. Otherwise he just stood at the top, looking fabulous but doing nothing else. It's not that he cannot jump the distance, he seems to be choosing not to. I don't know.

It seems to happen not only to Astarion; in my experience I've got Gale and Shadowheart stuck like this too.
I'd suppose that when you order the party to jump the one who sabotages just stands too far from the edge to perform. Then, when all the party runs forward, he/she cannot reach them through the chasm, and so stays on spot. But for Shadowfell it is strange for there's low gravity effect (just like on the Astral plane)

Yeah in my experience Shadowheart does this too sometimes

So white vamps can't jump. no wonder they like turning into bats sand mist.

Not really.. but then again I'm smart enough to have feather falling on hand for the group so the A.I will actually jump. The A.I doesn't jump if they will take damage a lot of the time, resulting in them moving awkwardly and then not jumping.

Mr. Special works just fine for me, maybe you just smell. :P Gale was the offender for me until I started feather falling or enhance leaping the weakest link. It is their STR stat effect HOW FAR they can jump mates.. so if its a really long jump and all you muscle heads with high str are making it.. its time to put up the low str chars or learn to use Enhanced Leap. :P

I see this sometimes especially in the Adamantium forge area, but it isn't Astarion, it seems to be whichever companion is last in your party order. You come up to a jump, two people follow you, the last doesn't. If you ungroup and select that character, they can jump across easily. Kind of a pain to be honest.

GG!

No, I mean literally: press G and then G again; ungrouping, regrouping and then moving a bit made the companions (most of the time) to continue to follow me.

And if you play the game as Bhaal intended - with mouse and keyboard that is, so you can slay your enemies quick and with precision - then that's a matter of a mere second, if at all.

So I've done the GGI bit, and it doesn't matter where he is in the party order. It is 99,99% of the time Astarion who hasn't jumped. None of my friends who play have this same issue nearly as often. For me it is every single time I play. If the party has to make any kind of jump, no matter what distance, I will have to manually move Astarion past that point, without fail. To date with over 400 hours in, there hasn't been a single play-through where he hasn't done this. Not one.
As for his strength, I have compensated for that and it doesn't matter. If there is an inch wide gap that must be crossed, he will not jump it. Guaranteed.

Did you sink stat him to 8 str? 10 is generally enough to jump most things (very minimally). Sink stattting comes with reprecussions on many dfifferent facets of game.

Let's face it people.

Astarion can't jump.

It's his NuMality. (LOL) :steamhappy:

maybe he skipped leg day

To further demonstrate what I mean, my Tav currently is a Sorc, with the strength rating of 8. She can make the jumps without issue, Astarion cannot/will not and his strength is the same, 8. If it is only an issue of Strength, then what is the difference?

i'm not entirely sure but i think how much you're carrying can impact how far you can jump and how much movement in turn-based-mode you have even if you aren't encumbered

does he have a lot of stuff in his inventory?
