Sorry if it's a stupid question.
Volo reminds me of Barcus. He needs to keep being rescued over and over again.
And that's all I'll spoil for now.
Although there's no real in-game consequence (other than a weird looking eye in your visuals) for getting Volo's Ersatz Eye ,,, I won't do it, as See Invisibility is so easy to cast or get from other items (potions, etc.) Having it on all the time is unnecessary.
There is one consequence to having Volo's eye. Since having See Invisibility still breaks the game inside a certain manor house in the Lower City, if you have the eye it is impossible to get through Lady Jannath's manor without leaving that character completely outside the active area.
Maybe he will show up again somewhere. He seems to be good at getting into trouble. :)
As others have said Volo has a knack for finding trouble, keep your eyes open.
That is blatantly not true.
Why does it break game in that area? I do remember going through that manor in my 1st playthrough with a character that had the eye, and it was a little bit annoying and definitely looked "broken" but the reason why i thought it was broken was because in that playthrough the painter didn't survive back in act 1.
Hence the hunt to try and figure out a cause. A lot of people say it happens when you use See Invisibility in the House. That may be ONE of the causes and there could be another. Hard to say. Many folks are saying they drink a potion of see invisibility and then the game crashes in the House literally one minute later. That said, I've also seen some folks saying they didn't use that and still got crashes. Shrug? Could be multi causal.
But I still think those crashes are not mod caused, and are the result of SOME kind of bug for the scripting for "poltergeist activity" in the house.
I should not have used a definitive, but for many players including myself, the area's extreme number of invisible entities*- combined with the parts of the level that extend to multiple floors, like the foyer or servant's staircase- can produce so many checks and calculations that the game can hard crash.
I am not the only person to experience this "problematic area." It affects some console players as well and is a known issue for several months on the Larian forums.
* The invisible ghosts and haunted candelabras, which also contain an invisible spawn trigger. The servant's staircase is three levels high with at least six ghosts and two candelabras.
