BG3 should be a sort of spiritual successor to Neverwinter Nights
NWN was one of the first D&D games I played as a kid back in the yonk of 2006, and was Immediately smitten by the game. Did I know how build an optimized in the 3E system, Hell no, I was only 12 when I first played it. but despite it's dated graphics and jank of NWN Diamond I fell in love with it, messing around with the map editor in was a fun experience even though nothing I made would have been considered good. Finding mods and community stuff was amazing some of the modules even rivaled the official campaigns. I dislike Noah Caldwell-Gervais, his videos are bloated messes of surface level analysis but he was apt in one of his comparison to Quake, even if it's hyperbole more or less, NWN never saw the community Quake had perchance. Moving on, BG3, if it releases DLC in the future, should release a map editor along with it, I can't but think of the amount of creative maps, campaigns, and modules this community could create. We haven't seen a Dark Sun game since 1996's Dark Sun Online, perhaps a Dark Sun mod for BG3 (yes I know there is a Dark Sun mod in the works for NWNEE, that's been in development for longer than BG3, can't wait to see it still) or a mod that takes place in space? Spelljammer in BG3? why not? How about a Traveller conversion to BG3 or even Adventures in Glorantha? custom races like the Aslan from the Third Imperium and the Durulz of Runequest! Return to Greyhawk and face off Against the Cult of The Reptile God, go to Eberron and discover the Secrets of Xen'Drik or go back to the past and p̶l̶a̶y̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶s̶h̶!̶t̶t̶y̶ ̶g̶a̶m̶e̶s̶ ̶t̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶s̶u̶c̶k̶ ̶@̶$̶$̶ through the original Baldur's Gates for people who have a hard time getting in to the 2e system a̶n̶d̶ ̶e̶x̶p̶e̶r̶i̶e̶n̶c̶e̶ ̶M̶i̶n̶s̶c̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶S̶a̶r̶e̶v̶o̶k̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶w̶a̶y̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶y̶ ̶s̶h̶o̶u̶l̶d̶ ̶b̶e̶. and more character customization; more classes, races, expanded face modifiers and adjustments so everyone doesn't look the same, boy pregnancy, more sub classes and other options. the sky's the limit! Even though most of this is unlikely to happen but a can dream, can't he? Plz release a Map and game editor.

Red prince was the reason red dragons live again (ahem githyanki)
Red Dragons never died, though. Established Faerûn lore regarding the Githyanki since 2nd editions is that a person named, Gith, freed the people to be known as the Gith from centuries of enthrallment to the Mind Flayers. Near the end of the conflict, she went with Vlaakith (the first) to Avernus to bargain with Tiamat. Vlaakith returned with a bunch of Red Dragons in tow, stating they were a gift from Tiamat and Gith remained behind to seal the pact. Once the Gith were free, their society fractured into the xenophobic warriors of Githyanki and aggressively isolationist monks of Githzerai. After the reign of several Vlaakith's over the Githyanki, the most recent one became a Lich and has ruled for a couple centuries.

None of this is spoiler because this is established lore. BG3 uses this as its foundation.

However, the Red Prince and Fane can be found in paintings in BG3. (Fane's portrait is in the Refectory part of the Overgrown Ruins, the part accessed from the Chapel Entrance, not the Ravaged Beach. Inspect the Portrait of Fane on the wall. It's easier to see and has a description when inspected.)

while it's a Easter egg for fans of Larian I can totally see a Divinity campaign setting in the works in the future, though I think it would work better for BRP or Rollmaster than 5e

Dungeon Siege>NWN1
The game was saved only by high-level DLC and support for mods and multiplayer
I disagree. 3e is borked system in tabletop, hence the revision 3 years later then Pathfinder 1e that, imo, is the best version of 3e mechanics wise. NWN was fun regardless of the jank.
Disagree with what?

Chicken butt

more seriously with the idea that nwn was saved with by HLC and mods, what I was trying to say in so many words and partial drunkardness is that NWN had a solid, if flawed, foundation. That could be me wearing the thickest rose tinted glasses. Never played nor heard of dungeon siege so I can't give an opinion if it's good or not.

Well... I guess everyone has their first love.
Curiously NWN was the game that put the final nail on the Computer DnD coffin for me, for a loooong time.

Fresh from the perfect BG2 I went into Planetscape Torment... Only to find I don't like Planetscape world AND bored to death by those "book size" dialogues... Then Icewind Dale... Too shallow, felt like a giant arena, finally NWN... NWN, If I recall was the first attempt at real 3D DnD, problem was that EVERYTHING looked like a square room, including outdoor environments, and since I already had lost my patience with the previous two I buried the genre, crowned BG2 as the first and BEST DnD ruler for all time and that was it. I kept playing BG2 for years, run after run, years apart, sometimes, whenever I felt the urge to go at it again.

Then (decades passed) and came BG3... I didn't jump in when someone said they were, finally and at long last, continuing the BG series, I had problems in the past with hopping in "developing" games that never finish so... 6 years passed, they finally finished the game (when I was already giving up they would, thinking it was another one of "those" scams...) and, given the reviews, I finally took it out of my wish list and bought it. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't thought it was so good, a true successor... Then came the "cringe, you know what," scenes, the canon infringements but I eventually went around that, laughed it out or just shook my head in sarcasm and enjoyed what is truly a rarity these days... A full game, no DLC's, you pay what you get, complete, outstanding graphics and music, and complexity, and compelling story, lots of quests, lots of hidden content, great combats, a little bit too easy but, ok and a canon DnD rules implementation (not truly canon on lore though, some flaws there). So, not being perfect, it is a true successor to the BG family

That said, if they remade BG2 with modern graphics and music it would probably grade it
a notch above, BG2 still rules supreme, I guess, but BG3 is an incredible game, a worthy successor and a deserving GOTY recipient.

NWN was an outstanding game, and Hordes of the Underdark was certainly the best DLC, but the best part of the game was the endless amount of customized servers that people created and ran for years. Some worlds were entirely underground, with Duergar, Dwarves, and Dark Elf cities, some had above and below ground areas, some intricately detailed with absolute rules about things such as orcs and dwarves grouping, other huge and sprawling, with dragons that required large groups to kill, endless tunnels of undead.

It was a solid system and easily-accessible to creators. And back in the early days of of computer gaming, the audience was, sadly, smarter and more dedicated. The FLynn effect has long since reversed and begun that long, slow slide to stupidity.
