Sinister Door at Szarr Palace in Act 3 won't open even if i have the ring and the book
Got the book from the room with the dead girl then weirdly enough when i passed both persuasion check to get the ring from Godey as per USUAL in other playthroughs I've done, he told me he LOST the ring (never heard this dialogue in my life)...so I killed him and lo and behold its literally on his person??? But even with the ring I still can't open the door cause there is no dialogue option to put it into the crevice of the door where its supposed to go....there's only the dialogue option to read the ancient text

Most people having this issue didn't remove their mods after the hotfix 16 update. Is this possible?

That seems like it might be the case, since I haven't been having any issues in my unmodded game.

Has anyone found a solution to this? I've tried removing mods, re-verifying game files, dropping the items, picking them up again, using different characters, everything I can think of. Please help!

For the love of mods, I wish this could get stickied.

Two mods seem to be big problem with Hotfix 16 & quest items.

BG3 Mod Fixer
Party limit begone -- legacy version

Disable those. Now, BTW, this is known for sure. It might also be happening from other mods with "mod fixer" embedded, possibly inventory mods.

And if you are getting this issue without mods, then who the hell knows what's going on. But lots of folks are saying disabling those two, or all, solves their issue.

Thank you! I disabled everything in the end, and got there eventually

How can you disable all mods and load your modded save?
The game crashes instantly

I had to validate the install files through steam afterwards, and did that several times actually. Are there any modded items in your inventory that the game might be trying to pull in?

I had the exact same thing happen to me today. I also disabled all my mods, did the checks etc and now the game crashes every time I try to load a save.
Looks like I'll have to start a new playthrough all over again , mod-free.

So, you don't really HAVE to disable ALL (even if Larian says so).

And here's the thing - yep - you DON'T want to disable the ones that create save dependencies. You shouldn't. Larian doesn't advise on this, but if you disable a mod that creates a dependency, and you try and load that save without it, the game crashes.

Now, and here's the one rub, and I might be facing it myself soon, some mod authors have embedded the annoying "bg3 mod fixer" in their mods, which creates the problem with HF 16 ... and if that same mod also creates save dependencies ... well, yes, you have, as we like to say, a dilemma.

Have I mentioned mod authors should stop embedding that into their mods? It.is.no.longer.needed.

I think I have.

Allow me to also note, I believe the workaround where you put all your quest items into the camp chest instead of inventory appears to work in many cases (if not all).
