SAME!!!! im stuck here too, are you using level curve mod or anything?
seeker1 Jan 9, 2024 @ 9:12pm
Yep. I'm really fixated on trying to find the cause for this because while I don't have it yet it might hit in 2 weeks.
a) are you using mods
b) if so, is one of them Party Limit Begone - Legacy Version?

When you say "skiff" you mean the boat to take to the brain right? Obvious steps would be to save the game and log out, log in. Also verify integrity of the game files, this takes a little while to complete. One thing to note, if you have Karlach (sp) in your group OR in your camp, she wants to see Gortash's body. So I actually grouped her and brought her there to see the body. Maybe that will trigger your quest to clear. Other than that, back up a save or two. (which sucks)

Yes I am using a few mods. Including the lvl 20 mod and party limit begone. I also used Karlach to inspect the body and watched her reaction. I have re done the fight and it still is bugged out. :steamsad:

I will wait patiently. Hope there will be a fix. Thanks for that info about the hotfix 16, I was not aware. :PixSe:

I have also been having this problem - bugged cutscene and questmarker on Gortash despite having the netherstone
seeker1 Jan 12, 2024 @ 4:25pm
Two mods appear to be main culprit, folks, interfering with Hotfix 16 & quest items.

Party Limit Begone Legacy 1.7.3 - if you're going to stick with Legacy (you only have to if you don't have Script Extender), get the current update to 1.7.4.

BG3 Mod Fixer - dunno, people are resistant to accepting this, but we have folks saying here that they disabled that beast, and then the issue resolved. Plus all kinds of folks at Nexus think this is the other culprit. I think you don't need it, and should disable it.

COULD be some other inventory based mods, though I'm unsure about this. But yes, 100% those who have disabled all mods said the issue went away.

I think whether this is really affecting people without mods I would also put in "unsure". It's definitely NOT affecting everybody.

I will try these becuase I am using the PLB mod as well as other that have mod fixer integrated into them. Several in fact. Does that mean i need to remove all mods? Will my save even exist once I do that? I just want to finish act 3 :steamsad:

Thanks for the advice either way Seeker1!

If you have the Legacy version of PLB - I do - but Windows users should switch over to 2.0 which uses scripting - make sure to update it to 1.7.4.

I'm not positive about embedded Mod Fixer, but standalone Mod Fixer CAN go, and it seems to me folks who disabled it said the problem went away and nothing else was affected (not surprising, it's really DOING nothing to "fix" anything at this point.) Just make sure again if you CAN to have Script Extender updated & working.

Looking into the Legacy version of PLB now. Awesome info!

I only have a like 5 mods with Fixer embedded. No standalone version of fixer. Mods like BagsBagsBags, All skill Reset, and Everyone in Dialogue, all have it included. I also do have Script Extender working. Will check for a new update from the BMM.

Thanks again Seeker1! :dos2skull:

Up for developers who cannot fix a bug that makes it impossible to finish the game. Keep making hotfixes with all sorts of crap instead of fixing the main quest in this game.

Folks,

Larian Studios does NOT currently support Modding in the game. Larian Studios does NOT take Modding into account when updating the game. The issue is NOT with Larian Studios and BG3, it is with the Mods themselves.

The Mod authors will need to update their Mods to work with the game. Larian Studios is NOT going to change their game code so that it will work with specific Mods.

Please go to the Mod author's forums and complain to them. Nothing will be done about it here or by Larian Studios. Or, stop using Mods.

I've remained curious whether the Hotfix 16 Quest Items bug is hitting people without mods (and in particular 2 mods, and perhaps mods that contain 1 of the 2). My current conclusion is no. So it is not something Hotfix 16 introduced that affects everybody, just folks with mods. I also am wondering if Hotfix 17 on its own helps solve the issue - I noticed somebody said yes, but that was only one person.

Larian Tech Support is telling people who contact them over the issue to do a complete removal and wipe of all mods from their system.

Complaining to the author of BG3 Mod Fixer appears pointless. He released his "fix" in August of 2023. and AFAICT never has updated it, nor responded to anything in its extensive Bug Reports, or to any complaints posted on its forums. "Abandonware". I get what it does is simple; forces story recompilation; problem is it is simply destructive.

The guy who did Party Limit Begone did the right thing and released a 1.7.4 update for it which is totally compatible with HF 16. How things should happen.

There are no known reliable reports of anyone that has never installed Mods seeing this issue. Personally, no quest item has ever failed to register properly during my play through time and I have never installed Mods for BG3.

The fact that Larian Studios is telling folks that they should nuke and not use Mods says a lot. I hope the message gets through.
