Do you switch out companions, or do you run a set team?
Just asking out of curiosity.

I have been switching the guys out for a while, to try everyone out, but I think I might have discovered my favorites.

switch for companion quest, return to normal right after.

Until I started my current honor mode campaign I had a pretty set group, usually only four maybe five characters I used. Now I have been switching out more frequently depending on where I am.

currently just switching out Astarion and Gale for the 4th companion, I left Wyll and Karlach behind just to make the party a little more consistent

I do the same thing. My party of 4 is always: Warrior, Healer, Rogue, Mage

Running a main character bard, Lae'zel, Minthara and Astarion, swapping Astarion out for Shadowheart when I run into harder bossfights requiring more magical oomph. I also have Gale, but he annoys me and is too squishy for me to bother with.

I usually only run a pair of companions at one time for flavor, and then use a mod for character creation that lets me build custom NPC companions, and I rotate them, it's better than hirelings as you can customize them from the start and they use the same voices as the PC character so they're a bit more lively than the stock hirelings. I usually run with Shadow, and my main character is typically a squishy mage, so I rotate Astarion, Gale, and Wyll for their stories and color commentary, while my Custom NPCs are usually tanks.
