How do you do that IRL? By getting to know them.

Like most RPGs of this type it's pretty simple, pay attention to what types of actions/conversation responses that they approve of and disapprove of.

Do more of the former and less of the latter and their approval value for you will increase (you can check their current approval on their character screen, should be on the Summary tab at the bottom), eventually you'll reach the approval threshold for them to have the relationship talks.

Don't stress too much, unless you *really* do some questionable ♥♥♥♥, the majority of them will like you plenty by just going trough the game normally. Which specific companion are you referring to, that you want to like you?

She likes having her boundaries respected, and otherwise generally good moral choices. She's easy to keep happy if you don't push her on her secrets, and when she reveals them, respect her.

Alignment guide for companions:

Lazael - Lawful Evil
Shadowheart - True Neutral, later Neutral Good or Neutral Evil depending on player influence
Gale - Neutral Good
Asterion - Neutral Evil, later True Neutral or Chaotic Evil depending on player influence
Wyll - Lawful Good
Karlach - Chaotic Good

Examples:

Gale, Wyll, and Karlach respond well to helping people in need, and disapprove of acts of needless cruelty. (Shadowheart also disapproves of needless cruelty, but doesn't always approve acts of kindness)

Lazael, Shadowheart, and Asterion approve of selfish actions that put the party's interests first, and disapprove of acts of charity. (helping people when there's clearly a reward in it for you is generally okay)

Lazael and Asterion approve of general acts of violence.

Wyll and Karlach approve of acts of violence against evil creatures specifically.

Wyll, Karlach, Shadowheart, and Lazael all disapprove of making shady deals with demons and other obviously shady characters, and approve of you rejecting them.

Asterion and Gale both approve of you making shady deals if you can swing them to your benefit, but only Asterion will generally disapprove of you rejecting them.

Side notes:

Lazeal likes people with backbone and conviction, and hates mindflayers.

Shadowheart likes people who can think for themselves, but who also respect her privacy.

Wyll likes it when you show interest in his past.

Asterion likes it when you don't try to kill him for being a vampire :D

Gale likes anything relating to magic and also likes it when you donate magic items to him with his affliction.

Karlach likes it when you help her out with her Infernal Engine.
